After the success of their breakthrough single ‘it’s changed’ last year, and the intensity of their recent track release ‘floss is boss’, British alt-rock outfit really big really clever now return with the scuzzed-up riffs and raucous melody of new single ‘back door’.
‘back door’ is a raw, riff-driven heavy rock track that channels the chaos and confusion of a night gone wrong. The band say it was “inspired by the real-life experience of someone who was spiked and left disoriented and vulnerable. The song explores themes of fear and resilience.” The energy throughout is relentless and captures the feeling of losing control in an environment that should feel safe — and the fight to reclaim power and clarity. It’s a powerful reminder to look out for each other and stay aware in a world where danger can hide in plain sight.
This new single comes alongside the announcement of really big really clever’s second album, the disarmingly-titled ‘…huh’, which follows 2023’s self-titled debut and is set for release via Sugar-Free Records on 22nd August. The raw and emotive, occasionally off-kilter, yet pure-melody-fuelled tracks they’ve released from the record so far, exemplify what a blast it is listening to ‘…huh’, despite what its title may initially infer.
’…huh’ was recorded & produced in Whitstable during spring 2024 with long time collaborator and friend Ian Sadler.
Since their formation, really big really clever have played and toured alongside notable acts like Tigercub, Sweet Pill, Have Mercy, Gaffa Tape Sandy, Church Girls, and Family Dinner, solidifying their reputation as one of the most exciting live bands in the scene. Whilst grabbing the attention of people through their on-stage presence, they have also been featured on radio, including BBC’s Introducing and The Modern Rock Show, as well as DSP playlists including Spotify’s ‘Today’s Punk’ & ‘Hot New Bands’.
