RAINBOW KITTEN SURPRISE ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM, bones
OUT SEPTEMBER 26 – PRE-SAVE HERE
Genre-bending live sensations Rainbow Kitten Surprise have announced their new album, bones, out September 26 via Atlantic Records. Quintessentially Rainbow Kitten Surprise while still raising the bar, bones journeys through love, loss, and perseverance across its 10 captivating tracks. With frontwoman Ela Melo’s most vulnerable songwriting to date and euphoric production by Jay Joyce (Cage The Elephant, Orville Peck, Lainey Wilson), who worked with the band on 2018’s How to: Friend, Love Freefall, bones speaks to the band’s DNA while drawing from wisdom gained from over 13 years of making music together.
On the record, the band shares, “This record is the raw unfiltered sound of Rainbow Kitten Surprise doing what we love to do. We called it bones because we were clearing skeletons out of our closet. These were both musical and interpersonal dynamics that we had to release before we could make this record what it is.”
Rainbow Kitten Surprise gave fans a taste of the album last month with new single Dang, along with a cinematic video inspired by Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. Of the track, Billboard praised, “There’s just something about Dang, the latest song from rock band Rainbow Kitten Surprise, that demands to be blasted out of the nearest speaker on a hot summer day.”
The new record comes in the midst of Rainbow Kitten Surprise’s massive Thanks For Coming Tour, which has seen the band headline amphitheatres across North America. This touring run has featured countless sold-out shows (several of which were live streamed to fans worldwide via Nugs) and generated major excitement from fans, due in part to the band performing a handful of never-before-heard unreleased tracks.
The Thanks For Coming Tour continues through October and includes a sold-out stop at Morrison’s iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, notably marking the band’s fourth time selling out the venue. For the tour, the band launched the Rainbow Kitten Surprise Fund, created in collaboration with PLUS1, which will donate $1 from every ticket sold to promoting equality by way of LGBTQ+ rights, mental health care access, and supporting food sovereignty. Next year, the band will also be headed to Australia for a series of headline dates and supporting Ocean Alley.
The new album follows last year’s LOVE HATE MUSIC BOX, which was released to widespread critical acclaim from Consequence, Paste, SPIN, Billboard, and more. The record was also the band’s first album in 6 years, following How to: Friend, Love, Freefall, which has seen massive growth over the last few months, with hit track It’s Called: Freefall even being played in the latest season of Ginny & Georgia and reaching #1 on the Billboard TV Songs Chart.
Rainbow Kitten Surprise have plenty more in store…stay tuned!
