LONDON, U.K. – (10th February, 2023) – The long-awaited debut full-length album from actor and Americana singer-songwriter Alan Fletcher, The Point, is out today – listen here.
The Point – which also features album producers and multi-instrumentalists Damian Cafarella and Lachlan Bryan, Luke Moller on fiddle, and Jennifer Hansen providing duet vocals on ‘Somebody’ – was recorded at End Of The Road Studio in Melbourne, showcasing Alan’s particular take on the world, drawing influence and inspiration from singer-songwriters such as John Prine and Guy Clark amongst others, and follows on from the release of his EP Dispatches last year.
The album opener and title track began life “as a light spoof on religion,” before Fletcher “quickly realised that the song had much more potential. Do we not spend our lives asking the biggest question, what is the point of it all?”
Alan is due to take to the road in the UK again later this month, and throughout March and April. In addition to his forthcoming appearance this March in Neighbours – The Celebration Tour for fifteen shows alongside fellow cast members Jackie Woodburne, Stefan Dennis, Ryan Moloney, Annie Jones and April Rose Pengilly – including three sold-out nights at the London Palladium – he will join frequent collaborators Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes on the road for fifteen headline shows across the UK, performing music from the new album. ABOUT ALAN FLETCHER:
For over 27 years, Alan Fletcher has portrayed the character, Karl Kennedy, on the iconic Australian television drama, Neighbours. He has also appeared in Cop Shop and in the US series, The Love Boat. His first forays into music were with the rock band, Waiting Room, in 2004 – releasing two albums and a single. The band has toured the UK ten times in eight years performing to sell-out crowds and maintaining a weekly residency in Melbourne for 12 years.
In 2020, Alan joined forces with Lachlan Bryan and Damien Cafarella at their Melbourne studio, End of the Road, to realise his passion for Americana and Folk music. The resulting debut EP, Dispatches, released in 2022, was previewed at a special live show during the Tamworth Country Music Festival in Australia in April.
“When I began this journey with Lachlan and Damian I expected to, with luck, write and record a few songs that might get a release,” shares Alan. “Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I would have produced such a substantial body of work over the last 18 months.”
Alan Fletcher’s new album The Point is available now worldwide.
