Bristol-based alt-rock band Our Nameless Boy have released brand new track ‘‘38’, reminiscent of the late ‘90s/’00s US alternative-emo scene, alongside a music video. The track is the first to be released from their upcoming EP ´Thorns’, out 10th April via Bandcamp and on all other platforms from 17th April.

“I wrote “‘38” almost 2 years ago, during the first of what is now many times that I felt like the end of the world was imminent,” says Iain Gorrie (guitar, lead vocals) of the new track. “As well as referencing what many these days might list as contributing factors to the downfall of humanity (greed, ignorance, and the press all get a mention – “… as sirens air until they fade behind the lines with, ‘This is not as ‘38’…”), the song is trying to put across that, no matter what your perspective is on major, far-reaching events in the world, ultimately when they land on your door, they will take you by surprise. Our usual dynamic shifts serve pretty well to hit this point home, and the intro tries to take this one step further with a rhythmic misdirect that tries to catch you off guard. Like the end of the world probably would when it actually comes,” he adds.

With the accompanying video, the band wanted to reflect the impact that the greed, ignorance, and division noted in the song can impact people. The circus folk represent those most negatively affected by these things in real life. Using them as an abstraction broadens what they’re able to represent to put across the idea that nobody is safe in these times. The shift from black & white to colour further hits the point home by saying “we’ve made these mistakes before, and we’re making them again.

Inspired by the emotionally charged, quiet/loud and sometimes frenetic dynamics of the late ‘90s/‘00s US alternative/emo scene (think Manchester Orchestra, Thrice, and MewithoutYou), Bristol based alt-rock band Our Nameless Boy bring their own brand of raucous energy to their performances, with songs that are hard hitting and subtle in their intricacies.

Whilst their 2021 album ‘Colour from the Doves’ provides a deeply personal account of a Iains’ battle with cancer, more recently Our Nameless Boy have set their sights more outwardly, attempting to make sense of the modern human condition through narratives intended to inspire empathy and self-reflection both in themselves and others. The new EP ‘Thorns’ (self-release) is set for release on 10 April via Bandcamp and will be available on all other platforms from 17 April.

The band will also be playing a selection of live shows ahead of the release, as listed below.
