“It’s the exact type of music one would expect to hear from a person with the last name of Doom.”
Revolver Magazine
“The thundering groove and eerie atmospherics are pure Nitzer Ebb, yet with just the right amount of Depeche Mode suavity.”
BlackBook Magazine
“…dark, menacing, driving EBM laced techno with a cinematic touch.”
The Brvtalist
“He’s legitimately cool.”
Quentin Tarantino
May 20, 2022 – Los Angeles, CA: Straight Razor will release an EP entitled Vol. 2 on June 17th via Negative Gain Records. This is the second in a series of EP’s from the EBM project helmed by Omar Doom. While Doom (born Omar Makhdomi) is best known as an actor, music was actually his first love. He was surrounded by Classical Indian music from where his parents were born along with horror soundtracks and the popular music of the day like Michael Jackson and Madonna. It was the production of these songs that grabbed him most, especially the Moog synthesizer and the sounds of a drum machine.
Tracklist For Vol. 2:
- Enemy
2. Astaroth
3. Mantus
4. Leviathan
5. Lady Midday
Omar Doom started making music as a kid in school playing classical piano, violin, drums and guitar as well as singing. His upbringing included a lot of trips to New York City with his family, attending the Met Opera, seeing art house films and museums. This introduction to the arts from a young age would influence the career to come. He played in a few metal bands in high school and then majored in fine arts at Parsons school of Design, which included a year abroad at their Paris, France location. The European club scene furthered his love for industrial music and bands like Nitzer Ebb and Front 242. He told Revolver Magazine “I grew up playing in metal bands so creating those same riffs on a synth was a lot of fun.” Doom was part of a duo called Doomington with DJ Stretch Armstrong before starting Straight Razor. He has also done film soundtrack work and the track ‘Lady Midday’ appears in the 2020 horror comedy Spree starring Joe Keery of Stranger Things.
After getting his BFA Doom moved to Los Angeles to start a clothing company with his sister and attended parties and events surrounded by actors and directors, ultimately forming a friendship with renowned director Quentin Tarantino who gave him a small part in Death Proof. He has since appeared in several of Tarantino’s films including a supporting role in Inglorious Basterds where his character had the honor of killing Hitler along with Eli Roth’s character. Even with Doom’s cinematic success music was always calling. “Music came before acting for me. Acting is something I always wanted to do but never thought it was possible. When I moved to LA I started meeting successful actors and directors that showed me that the acting dream is possible. I eventually quit the clothing business and went full time acting.”
Aside from Straight Razor, Doom is also making a name for himself as a remixer, and just re-mixed a song for Corvad’s Unreal Remixes, Vantablack (STRAIGHT RAZOR Remix) out today. Of the track, Doom says: “With this remix I went with a deep and driving bass line that shows up halfway through the remix. The mood shifts as sirens blare over a deep, dark and frenetic bass line.”
