Commanding from the off with a filthy riff, Nuns of the Tundra have returned with their brand new single, With Me. The four-piece hailing from Bristol are once again proving their prowess as an alt/rock band, who deliver riff-heavy anthems. Listen here.
The band have explained, “A song that asks the question ‘how many riffs can I put underneath a vocal melody without it getting in the way?’ and the answer is all of them. This one has been going off so much live, it’s our new finisher. This is a love song from a band that doesn’t do love songs.”
With Me follows the band’s release, Solid Gold, which was released in the summer. It was their first new release since 2021, when they released their EP The World’s Gone Crazy And So Have I. Nuns Of The Tundra were chosen out of 100s of bands at a BBC event to record the historic Kore Studios, a renowned facility which has recorded artists such as the late, great Amy Winehouse, Florence + The Machine, Stereophonics and more. The outcome was this 3-track EP, featuring the band’s most popular track Low on Spotify, which has racked up 317k+ streams.
Shortly after this release though, tragically, their bassist Tom Benson passed away out-of-the-blue before this could come to fruition. The devastating blow was too much, and Nuns ceased to be for some time. “Tom’s family told us we should carry on, and keep him and his music alive through us.” With a new purpose and a legacy to think about, Nuns returned to songwriting, creating much more emotionally charged, mature works in the fallout of disaster.
The quartet will support Bad Omega at Amersham Arms in London on 15th November, and tickets can be bought here. After this, the band will support Scottish funk-rockers High Fade, at not one, but two sold out shows in Chelmsford. With a reputation for powerful live performances, Nuns Of The Tundra have been cutting their teeth playing shows incessantly over the years. Recently, they supported King Nun in Worcester, and played a hometown show at Rough Trade Bristol. The Spring saw Nuns play a packed out show at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival. Other highlights include opening the mainstage for The Darkness at Lakefest, a sold out show at Birmingham’s O2 Institute and headlining the Worcester Music Festival. Nuns Of The Tundra have a slew of shows up their sleeves for next year, so watch this space.
