Northvale deliver emo-laced pop-punk on anthemic debut album
New Jersey outfit Northvale have released their debut album.
Five years in the making and a product of the band’s growth, failures and gritty ambition, the rookie LP is an infectious, thought-provoking collection. Somewhere where alt rock, pop-punk and emo collide you’ll find Where We Go When There’s Nothing Left.
Following their formation in 2020, Northvale wasted no time establishing a heart-on-sleeve, emotive brand of pop-punk that displays the quintessential energy of the genre, whilst delivering honest lyricism and melodically weighted guitars.
Northvale was conceived on collaboration, and the band ensured this was a fundamental part of their formative work, teaming with The Home Team, Broadside’s Oliver Baxxter and In Her Own Words’ Joey Fleming.
Both tracks would appear on the band’s debut EP, The Things We Used To Be, a cathartic, lockdown-busting collection, offering an outlet for Northvale’s tales of loss, heartbreak and acceptance.
Early 2024 would see the four return to the studio, collaring Brett Romnes (The Movielife, Hot Mulligan, Seaway) and Gary Cioni (Crime In Stereo, Lincoln Hotel Etiquette) for production duties.
The output would culminate in Northvale’s debut album. Where We Go When There’s Nothing Left is a scintiliating slice of pop-punk, splayed with heart-rendering emo tones and weighty alternative rock guitars.
From heart-rendering mental health anthem “Hang in There, Kid” to the soaring emo heights of “Already Dead” ft. The Dangerous Summer, the rookie LP is laced with compelling and intense tracks that showcase the New Jersey outfit’s resonating hooks and soaring injections of melody.
From mental health to toxic celebrity worship to addiction, Northvale tackle the cutting issues of our time, but pursue their causes in a way that is both unerringly pertinent and perennially engaging. Amidst its poignant subject matter, Where We Go When There’s Nothing Left is, at its core, a hopeful and positive look forward.
Although Northvale hone influence from the Drive Thru Records era of years past, the New Jersey outfit are a fresh and contemporary a breathe of air for the scene’s present and future.
