Ten years ago, Philadelphia’s The Wonder Years released The Greatest Generation, a masterpiece of an album packed with both the snarl and sensitivity of growing up. It has since been called one of the greatest pop-punk albums of all time by Rolling Stone; a tour de force of where the genres of punk and emo collide, The Greatest Generation has garnered critical acclaim over the years for its introspective and mature approach to themes like nostalgia, politics, grief, and the struggles of the working class.

To celebrate its decade anniversary, The Wonder Years share a revived TGG b-side called “GODDAMNITALL,” which is accompanied by an archival music video that takes viewers back to the days of The Greatest Generation. Also available to pre-order now is The Greatest Generation limited edition anniversary box set, set for a September 8th release date, complete with a 32-page booklet of photos, stories from band members, and essays by Hanif Abdurraqib, Hannah Seidlitz, and Thomas Nassiff. The box set also includes rare demos and voice memos from the original recording session. Additional box set pre-orders, including the Hopeless Records box set variant at: ffm.to/TGG10

GODDAMNITALL is a song that almost was, and then, for a long time, categorically was not, and now is,” vocalist Dan Campbell says of the track out today.

“When it came time to find bonus content for this box set, we went grave digging in old hard-drives to find the demos from TGG that didn’t get finished and then exhumed and reanimated this one. It was the closest to being done at the time. All of the music was there. The chorus had lyrics and melody but, for budget and time constraints it got abandoned before it had verses and a bridge. Now, a decade later, it’s finally finished. We asked Steve Evetts to produce it the same way he would have if it were on the original album and it now stands as a spiritual and somewhat literal b-side to The Greatest Generation.”

Produced by Steve Evetts (who also produced The Wonder Years’ latest album, The Hum Goes On Forever), The Greatest Generation is a triumphant statement of purpose from a band whose ambitions continue to match their abilities. In one of the bolder marketing moves they’ve ever attempted, to mark the album’s release in 2013, The Wonder Years played 4 shows in 24 hours––starting at 8PM in Philly, NYC in the dead of night, Chicago the next morning, and on stage in Anaheim, CA by nightfall. They also hosted a week-long pop-up shop in Philadelphia with movie nights, acoustic performances, and more.

The Wonder Years will bring The Greatest Generation onstage at the sold out Loneliest Place On Earth Festival, the band’s first-ever event of its kind, happening in Philly on September 9. Additional performances from Origami Angel, Kississippi, Laura Stevenson, and more will help round out this very special band-curated experience.
