The Nightmares release new single ‘Something In The Dark’

an anthem for outsiders

‘Something In The Dark’ is a song for the outsiders, a song for those who don’t fit in – the misfits, weirdos and the nonconformists,” The Nightmares vocalist and guitarist Adam Parslow reveals of the band’s new single (the first release from the Newport Noir pop quintet this year). He continues: “The narrative of the lyrics tells the story of a young woman called “Blue” who one fateful day sees something that cannot be explained. This moment changes her forever and leaves her literally speechless from that point onwards. The song was influenced by our love of artists such as Gary Numan, Killing Joke and Heavens. The music video was inspired by our collective fascination with cult 90s television programmes like The X-Files & Twin Peaks.”

‘Something In The Dark’ marks the start of a new era for The Nightmares and they’re getting set to bring this new wave of new wave to audiences around the UK and beyond, starting with a handful of appearances this summer including at 2000trees festival in July. All details below.

The Nightmares self-released their self-titled debut EP in 2019, introducing the world to their compelling juxtaposition of dark and light. Harking back to the perfect pop stylings of The Cure, while drawing inspiration from artists such as Interpol, Bright Eyes, Placebo, AFI and New Order, the band brought and continue to bring something new to the alternative scene. They’ve played shows with Funeral For A Friend, Dashboard Confessional, Kids In Glass Houses, Casey, Fearless Vampire Killers, Miss Vincent, Creeper, Holding Absence, Grave Pleasures and Tiger Army.

The Nightmares’ debut album ‘Séance’ was released via Venn Records (UK) / Equal Vision Records (US) last year. The uniquely dark stylings of the record saw The Nightmares solidified as one to watch in the UK’s alt underground, their cult status propelled by icon-in-the-making Will Gould of Creeper guesting on a track and the likes of Kerrang! proclaiming they have “Coffinloads of promise”. The Nightmares have also performed an Audiotree session and enjoyed BBC Radio 1 play courtesy of Daniel P. Carter, Alyx Holcombe and Huw Stephens, as well as support from Adam Walton at BBC Radio Wales.
