The Limiñanas – New Album ‘Electrified (Best Of 2009-2022)’ Out Now Via Because Music

Today, The Limiñanas release their first-ever best-of album ‘Electrified’ (Best of 2009-2022)’ via Because Music. Covering their 13-year career, ‘Electrified’ is more than a traditional best-of compilation and includes 12 exclusive bonus tracks, a mixture of new songs and rare songs written under their previous moniker Les Bellas. It also includes 23 of their classic songs, featuring the likes of Peter Hook, Anton Newcombe and French pioneers Laurent Garnier, Etienne Daho and Pascal Comelade. The album also includes liner notes written by Iggy Pop, Peter Hook and Keith Streng (The Fleshtones). ‘Electrified’ is available on double CD, double vinyl, limited-edition triple orange vinyl and digital. ‘Electrified’ underlines The Limiñanas’ rule-breaking valour and provides indisputable evidence of the versatility and scope of the music the duo has released during their ongoing career. A clutch of new tracks bears testament to the band’s creative fecundity and, in the shape of ‘La Musique’, with vocals by erstwhile Brigitte Fontaine acolyte and octogenarian ‘Prince consort of French chanson’ Areski Belkacem, their aforementioned collaborative disposition. The album also finds room for material from their previous incarnation Les Bellas, which demonstrates that when it comes to purveying unadulterated ’60s’ garage pop, evincing a love for Pebbles and Back from the Grave compilations, Lionel and Marie have always had the chops. Equally, it also makes plain how, as The Limiñanas, they have retained such inspirational roots while painting from a far more capacious palette, always happy to throw an oud, sitar or bouzouki into the mix, while embracing everything from UK post-punk and Italian horror film soundtracks to The Velvet Underground and electronic dance music, consistently bending these disparate components into a signature that is resolutely their own.

Since 2009, The Limiñanas have been straddling the boundaries between psychedelia, shoegaze, garage & French yé-yé. To date they have released 7 critically-acclaimed studio albums, 2 rare-tracks compilations, numerous EPs, original soundtracks and various collaborations, including 2019’s ‘Diabolique’ by L’Epee, a collaboration with The Brian Jonestown Massacre’s Anton Newcombe and celebrated French actress Emmanuelle Seigner.

The first extract from the album, brand new track ‘La Musique‘ was released earlier this summer and features their trademark pulsating beat as the backdrop for a spoken word anthem reminiscent of Serge Gainsbourg.
