Released earlier this year, Skerryvore’s ‘Tempus’ album proved to be a breakthrough moment for the octet, who blend the inspiring soul of Scottish roots music with modern alt-pop touches. It became their first album to reach the Top 40 of the Official Album Chart as well as firing straight to #1 on the Folk and Scottish Album Charts. Now in the midst of an extensive UK and Ireland tour, Skerryvore share their brand new festive songs ‘Angel of Christmas’. Proceeds from the track will be donated to Cash For Kids ‘Mission Christmas’ campaign.

With ‘Angel of Christmas’Skerryvore capture the magic of the festive season with a song that can stand tall among the season’s many classic songs. The song’s lyrics sparkle with the moments that make Christmas such a cherished season – the gatherings with family and old friends, the shared time with loved ones – while also acknowledging that it can be one of the loneliest times of the year. The music is just as evocative, with a rousing singalong Christmas chorus the centrepoint while sleigh bells and accordion decorate the song with the warmth of an open log fire.

Vocalist Alec Dalglish says, “With ‘Angel of Christmas’ I wanted to write a song for the season which was reminiscent of the Christmas songs I remember as a kid. In a world of consumerism and self-absorption, I hope that the message of the song and our tie with our chosen charity encourages us all to be more altruistic. Christmas can be a beautiful occasion for celebration and community but it can become a more difficult and lonely time for many others. We’re probably all guilty of focusing on the trials and tribulations of our own lives, and Christmas is a great opportunity to look outward and think about what we could do to help those less fortunate even in the smallest way possible. It’s for this reason that we want this song to support Cash for Kids ‘Mission Christmas’ campaign “

. Cash for Kids is a grant-giving charity helping the children that need it most across the UK – their mission is to improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in our communities who are affected by poverty, illness, neglect or have additional needs. Collectively Cash for Kids raised £20.4 million across the UK in 2022, supporting 489,409 children. The band have previously supported a variety of other charitable organisations, including the NHSClyde Cash for KidsMacmillan Cancer Support and The Maggies Centre.

Alec Dalglish produced ‘Angel of Christmas’ alongside bandmate Scott Wood.

Consistently able to draw large crowds to their rambunctious, atmospheric live shows, the three-time winners of Scotland’s Live Act of the Year Award are currently nine shows into their current UK tour which has included their biggest London gig so far at the Islington Assembly Hall.
