JACK ATLANTIC RELEASES NEW ALBUM

‘SHIPWRECKED’

After the major commercial success of Jack Atlantic’s 2020 SAMA (South African Music Award) Nominated debut album “Repaired” comes the anticipated new album “Shipwrecked”.

A masterful collection of 10 songs ‘Shipwrecked’ effortlessly draws on the depth of Atlantic’s songwriting and contemporary musical influences. Drawing inspiration from Jack’s personal experiences and cultural roots, each track resonates with authentic, emotive storytelling and connective tissue.

From the revealing intimacy of ballads (‘Highest Places”, “Ready To Love” and “Forever Young”) to the immediacy of up-tempo hits (“Thunder”, Hey Pretty Lady” and “Kissed in the Eighties”) ‘Shipwrecked’ is a journey that promises repeat plays.

Produced by South African wunderkind / multi-instrumentalist Mark Beling (Prime Circle, Mean Mr Mustard, Louise Carver, Blackbyrd) Atlantic’s new album strikes with immaculate production and addictive pop flavoured nostalgia.

Having earned widespread recognition for his previous releases, Jack Atlantic has gained a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim for his emotionally resonant lyrics, and impeccable musicianship.

Speaking about Shipwrecked, Jack Atlantic shares, “Shipwrecked began a year ago and challenged me to dig deep and bring forward what the true essence of my songwriting is. I needed to take some time to finesse that narrative, and what the songs represented to me. Working with someone as creatively open as Mark (Beling) broadened the album’s range bringing additional depth to the overall collection of songs…”

Born and raised on a farm in Vryheid, Kwa-Zulu Natal and schooled in East London, Eastern Cape, Jack Atlantic now hails from Johannesburg, South Africa. Having written and performed his first song at the age of eight, his passion for music and song writing started at an early age.

During his High school days in the Eastern Cape, he released his first full length punk rock album under his band sub2Bsain at the age of 16, which was made possible by winning a battle of the bands competing against well-established adult East London bands. It was during this time that he gave up on a promising swimming career to pursue his passion for music more seriously.

After matriculating in 2005, Jack relocated to Johannesburg to study contemporary music at Damelin Bramley (Previously Allenby) and to pursue a full-time music career. It was at Damelin where he had the honour of studying under legendary music industry man, Benjy Mudie, who would 12 years later, play a crucial role in the release of his debut album. While a music student at Damelin, Jack formed the band CherryKab with fellow music students and brothers Danny and Doulton Robson. The band would go on to have two massive radio hits namely, “Head Over Heels” and “We Got The Power” which charted on all major radio stations in South Africa (including 94.7, Algoa FM, East Coast Radio and KFM). Sadly, the band spilt in 2015, which forced Jack to take a break from the original music scene and focus on his craft and future identity. During this time Jack performed on average 5 to 6 shows a week playing covers at restaurants, bars, weddings and corporate events across South Africa. Although fully booked and making a good living playing covers, Jack longed to be back on stage performing his original music and sharing his stories.

Then in March of 2020 Covid-19 hit the music industry hard. Overnight Jack, a full-time musician lost his only source of income and was unable to perform and make a living. This led him down a dark path of depression. Thankfully, through the love and support of his wife and two-year-old daughter, he was able to overcome the depression an began focusing all his efforts on writing original music again. It was during the covid lock down that the songs that feature on his multi genre debut album, appropriately titled “Repaired” were created. His songs are all deeply personal and cover his personal life experiences, covering themes of loss and heartache to love and the birth of his daughter.

After posting a demo song of his single “Over and Over” on social media in August of 2020 he would once again cross paths with his mentor of 12 years earlier, Benjy Mudie. Benjy requested to hear more, and impressed with what he heard, forwarded the album to iconic South African label, Just Music who in turn signed Jack Atlantic at the end of August 2020. Jack Atlantic’s debut full length album “Repaired” was released in September 2020 and was SAMA Nominated for Best Adult Contemporary Album in 2021 and featured six Number 1 Hit singles on commercial radio stations across South Africa.
