Press for Plunge:

a loose, luscious listen, with a timeless sound.” – Uncut: 7/10

one of the year’s best rock records thus far. It’s mellow and moody, rife with vibrant chords and Evian’s trademark, dreamy vocals delivered on a pillow of time-worn harmonies” – Paste

[Evian] is (pun intended) plunging to new depths in his singing, songwriting, and arrangements. The result is his strongest record yet” – No Depression

Saucer-eyed, big-trousered power pop that’s a bit solo Lennon/solo George and wholly irresistible.” –  MOJO

Rollin’ In” skews things in the direction of DeMarco-esque surf-pop as it sets the scene for Evian mulling things over on the Atlantic Coast.” – FLOOD

Stay” is rightly billed as a countrified power-pop tune. Despite an easygoing tempo and production that gives it the feeling of a languid summer day, it’s a real finger-snapper.”  – Stereogum

a collection of nine layered, pastoral, cathartic songs that take a rollicking approach to relationship woes.” – Uproxx

Plunge showcases the many sides of Evian’s artistry … By toying with modern conventions, Evian was able to filter the modern pop landscape through his creative lens to land on a planet he could craft and make his own.” – Glide

On his fourth LP, Plunge, Sam Evian had a little help from his friends to create a wild and roaming set of songs that are deeply personal, soulful examinations of sobriety, family, life and love.” – NPR

A cathartic rock record that melds power pop, iridescent guitar, raucous psychedelia, and Evian’s now sought-after grooves, Plunge was Evian’s first release on his own imprint, Flying Cloud Recordings. The music is both fresh and familiar, sonically inspired by his penchant for early 70s production and creatively propelled by the free-spirited process depicted in the Beatles documentary Get Back, as well as his urge to let go of his own fastidious production instincts.

I spend so much time trying to make perfect recordings for everyone else,” Evian remarks, “So it was a slight act of resistance to make something wild and kind of fucked up for myself.

In 2017 Sam Evian decamped to the Catskills alongside his partner Hannah Cohen and their dog, Jan, creating an immersive recording experience, Flying Cloud Studios, tucked away in the mountains of upstate New York. Evian (née Sam Owens) has hosted/produced/engineered a slew of artists in his home studio including Big Thief (Grammy-nominated for Certainty), PalehoundKate BollingerBlonde RedheadHelena Deland and more. Plunge was his fourth LP release and first partnered with Thirty Tigers.

Plunge has been hailed in the media as his best effort yet, with MOJO describing it as “Saucer-eyed, big-trousered power pop that’s a bit solo Lennon/solo George and wholly irresistible”, while Uncut praised the album as a “a loose, luscious listen, with a timeless sound.” Online, The Line Of Best Fit wrote how “There’s a brightness to the album that sets it apart from Evian’s back catalogue, and his braveness to open up more than ever before is what gives Plunge its pulsing heartbeat.” God Is In The TV added on more, describing the album as “some of his best work to date.
