Robbing Millions – Hear new single ‘Same Skin’ – New album ‘Rêve Party’ out on April 28th

Hot off the heels of his virtuosic second album ‘Holidays Inside‘ (released on Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser’s MGMT Records), Robbing Millions, the project of Belgian avant-pop musician Lucien Fraipont, will release his new album ‘Rêve Party‘ on 28th April 2023.

Following the trippy and exciting first single ‘Elastics’, Robbing Millions returns today with psych-pop anthem ‘Same Skin‘. Starting off with a hyperkinetic beat and a tantalizing melody line, the verse gives way to a haunting and majestic hymn in the chorus. “The jerky groove of the intro aroused in me the image of a smoky nightclub attended exclusively by reptiles,” says Fraipont. “I was looking to create a rhythmic pattern that was both sharp and fluid while still staying in pop territory. I like to incorporate little elements that wouldn’t usually belong in a pop format, like the chromatic guitar riff in the verses, and to articulate something more obvious on top of that.”

‘Same Skin’ evokes the challenges one faces trying to reinvent oneself, trying to shed one’s skin, and the many hardships standing in the way of real change. “The feeling of running around in circles, walking through the same old streets over and over again, and – in the worst case – slowly but surely accepting your fate,” says Fraipont.“ “Thematically it reminds me of Fellini’s movie “I Vitelloni”, whose musical theme by Nino Rota is one of my fond childhood memories”.

‘Same Skin’ is accompanied by a music video directed by Yoann Stehr and Thomas de Hemptinne. This absurd, Lynchian piece of art is set in a weird anti-ageing treatment clinic, whose technique is accomplished through a creepy LED mask. It features the performance artist Leila Alice, saxophone player Shoko Igarashi, as well as the inflatable sculptures of Berenike Gregoor.

New album ‘Rêve Party’ is a massive leap forward for Robbing Millions: a bold collection of songs that are as boundless as they are meticulously arranged. Drawing from his love of French pop, American psychedelic rock, and the endless sprawl of jazz, Fraipont has expanded his sound in every way possible while honing in on the points of inspiration that keep him moving as an artist.

‘Rêve Party’ is set for release on 28th April 2023 via Capitane Records/ Born Loser Records/ Requiem Pour Un Twister.
