In regards to the band’s decision to cover the Spears classic, singer Andrew de Neef says, “It’s the definition of a perfect song. No matter how you translate it musically, it’s interesting and fun, and even though others have taken their approach to it in the past, we felt like we still had something to add to it with our version. We wanted a modern heavier version to get us motivated at the gym and to reintroduce the next generation to “punk goes pop” style cover songs.”

Of their T. Swift cover, de Neef reveals, “My daughter is a big Taylor Swift fan. I sat with my family the night of the new album release and we had a little listening party at home. I found myself immediately drawn to the dark tone and lyrics of “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” and felt it needed to be heard the way I heard it in my head when I first listened to the track, with a dynamic and heavy rock sound.

We had already recorded and planned to release a cover of Britney Spears “Toxic” when Taylor Swift dropped her new album, ‘Tortured Poets Society.’ We knew at first listen that “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” was the song that spoke to us on a personal level and was begging for our reimagining as a Rock song.

Because Taylor surprised her fans with a second 1/2 of the album release at 2am. We decided to release our Taylor Swift cover as a surprise to our fans, piggybacking off our cover of “Toxic,” and following suit with a 2am release, as a nod to Taylor.”

About Remember The Monsters:

Marking their official emergence in 2016, Remember the Monsters quickly gained significant attention from the release of their first single “The Pieces Remain.” The band, started by lead guitarist and primary songwriter Ashten Banks, went through a few changes in the early years, releasing two songs in 2019, “Sink” and “Close Encounters” with singer Julian Comeau, who went on to form the band Loveless after his time with RTM.

After a short hiatus, the band retuned in 2022 with a new song “Faded.” Joining forces with their new singer Andrew de Neef, the former Vocalist of Actual Villains & Close to Home (Razor & tie records/ Artery Recordings).

To complement and capture their cinematic sound, the band called upon producer Matt Good. (Asking Alexandria, Sleeping With Sirens, Hollywood Undead, etc.)

This is the year Remember the Monsters make their mark as they release two new cover songs, Britney Spears “Toxic” & Taylor Swift’s “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me” followed by new original tunes throughout the rest of 2024.
