Friday 21 July – Oscar Lang has released his new album ‘Look Now’, out today via Dirty Hit. Full of sweeping melodies and lush production from Rich Turvey (The Coral), it’s a deeply personal record from the singer-songwriter.
It’s a record that shows Oscar hitting his stride as a songwriter, exploring themes of loss and anxiety whilst musically it takes in playful hooks, poignant lyricism, orchestral swells, baroque-pop instrumentation, a record that’s expansive but never overblown, intimate at the same time as being epic. It is his definitive artistic statement.
The first single from the album ‘A Song About Me’ was soon followed by ‘One Foot First’ which was backed with a beautiful live performance video which was filmed at St John the Baptist Church in London and directed by Oliver James Robbins. Both tracks received support from the likes of The Line Of Best Fit, Dork, DIY, Clash and The New Cue, whilst Jack Saunders has been playing the track on his BBC Radio 1 show. The dream-like ‘Everything Unspoken’ arrived soon after which saw Oscar leaning into psych-pop territory whilst the most recent single ‘On God’saw Oscar examine the experience of losing his mother at a young age.
‘Look Now’ follows past collaborations with label mates Beabadoobee and Wallice as more recently with Molly Payton.
