Bristol-based alt/rockers, Nuns of the Tundra have today released their brand new single Solid Gold. The track is straight out of the gate with a fierce riff, showcasing the band’s accomplished musicianship throughout.
Speaking about the new track, Nuns have said, “Solid Gold holds a special place in our hearts – after we lost Tom our bassist, this is the first track we got in a room together and finished. Whether we meant to or not the lyrics ended up being a lot about loss and people pulling you through. We also wanted to come back with a bang – so it has one of the phattest riffs we could conjure and the thickest chorus we could manifest.”
Solid Gold is the quartet’s first new release since 2021, when they released their EP The World’s Gone Crazy And So Have I. They were chosen out of 100s of bands at a BBC event to record the historic Kore Studios, a renowned facility which has recorded artists such as the late, great Amy Winehouse, Florence + The Machine, Stereophonics and more. The outcome was this 3-track EP, featuring the band’s most popular track Low on Spotify, which has racked up 215k+ streams.
Shortly after this release though, tragically, their bassist Tom Benson passed away out-of-the-blue before this could come to fruition. The devastating blow was too much, and Nuns ceased to be for some time. “Tom’s family told us we should carry on, and keep him and his music alive through us.” With a new purpose and a legacy to think about, Nuns returned to songwriting, creating much more emotionally charged, mature works in the fallout of disaster.
With a reputation for powerful live performances, Nuns Of The Tundra have been cutting their teeth playing shows incessantly over the years. More recently, Nuns played a packed out show at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival. They performed as part of Escape From The Escape at The Pipeline. This was a free showcase curated by Saviour Music, and also saw Holocene, Laura’s Dream, Native James and Carpark play. Other highlights include opening the mainstage for The Darkness at Lakefest, a sold out show at Birmingham’s O2 Institute and headlining the Worcester Music Festival.Nuns Of The Tundra have a slew of shows up their sleeves for the rest of the year, so watch this space.
Blending their signature underground and alternative influences, Nuns aim to create a fresh sound but with pangs of nostalgia, fitting right in the middle of your favourite record collection.
