Michael Fox and Michelle Dockery (Michael & Michelle) unveil new single ‘Starlight’ via Decca

Following the release of their debut EP ‘The Watching Silence’, duo Michael Fox and Michelle Dockery are continuing their musical adventure. Today, they unveil ‘Starlight’, a compelling, gritty American Western-inspired new single infused with Michael & Michelle’s distinctive subtle touch of dramatic harmony.

Michael & Michelle are once again joined by Chris Mass (Mumford and Sons) on percussion and Tommy Heap (Willy Mason) on piano and drums, and Carlos Garcia on guitar. Recorded in Crouch End’s Church Studios in London, the single has been produced by Iain Grimble (Bears Den, Daughter and Catfish And The Bottlemen).

Speaking about the single, Michael Fox states: ‘We wanted a song that felt really American, the idea of galloping through on horseback. We sat separately to write the lyrics, so it was very conversational. The lyrics were in conflict, her verse against my verse, and we tried to bring them back together and see what we ended up with’.

Michelle says ‘It started with a very Western riff that sets the scene, like a Western film. It’s our favourite one to do live. We love it.” Last June, Michael & Michelle hit the headlines while performing their first ever official public show at a sold-out OMEARA London.

Michael Fox and Michelle Dockery first met on the set of hit TV period drama Downton Abbey, and soon discovered their shared passion for music. This led to a casual jam, in between shooting scenes. Connecting immediately, both on voice and guitar, Michael and Michelle started playing regularly as a duo for fun. Fast forward six years, they made it official with their first record deal and debut EP, ‘The Watching Silence’, released via Decca.

Both were looking for a new way of expressing themselves – and music runs in their blood. Growing up, Fox had always been in bands, cutting his teeth through a range of styles from indie to folktronica while writing his own songs. Dockery grew up in a noisy household on a diet of Joni Mitchell, Alison Krauss and Indigo Girls – she sang on various London stages before acting took the front seat.

From sharing scripts to weaving tunes, Michael Fox and Michelle Dockery take the stage on their own terms as Michael & Michelle, and continue scripting the plotline of their epic musical saga with their new single ‘Starlight’.
