Rising Irish indie-folk band Kingfishr have today released their upbeat new single ‘Vancouver.’ Listen here.

‘Vancouver’ was borne out of a chance encounter with an ex in the airport at the beginning of summer 2022. Eddie (vocals, guitar) recalls: “She was moving to Vancouver, we just happened to be on the same flight. I hadn’t seen her in years, I couldn’t help thinking about how it all played out, the way things were and how much life has changed since.”

To coincide with the launch of ‘Vancouver’, and in response to numerous fan requests, the band will embark on a Canadian journey in mid-November. They are set to host Kitchen Sessions and engage in fan meet-ups.

The latest track from the hotly-tipped trio is a typically catchy ear worm, the low-burr of Eddie’s vocals pairs effortlessly alongside a vibrant, lively, guitar-led melody. The song is bursting with energy, the tapestry of harmonies dance together perfectly, drawing the listener in with the emotionally resonant lyrics. Though ultimately a tale of regret, ‘Vancouver’ doesn’t come across as bitter or jaded, but is instead infused with an underlying, youthful sense of hope and learning from your mistakes. A theme becoming synonymous with the band’s music.

Kingfishr’s music is hugely cinematic, they pride themselves on deep textures and a grand sonic atmospheric nature, with influences ranging from Hanz Zimmer to Ben Howard.  They have released seven singles prior to Vancouver: flowers-fireeyes don’t lieHeart In The WaterAnywayHeadlandsCaroline and flowers-fire (feat.Jamie Duffy). Which combined have racked up over 4 million streams on Spotify. Three of these tracks were recently performed on The Independent’s live music session Music Box.

The band spent the summer of 2023 supporting established musicians including world-famous rock legend Bruce Springsteen at BST. They have also had support slots for George Ezra’s UK/ Ireland tour as well as Dermot Kennedy’s Limerick shows at Thomond Park & in Dublin at Marlay Park.

Alongside this were a run of festival dates that included Electric Picnic (main stage), Neighbourhood Weekender, Live At Leeds, Latitude, All Points East, Sea Sessions & Indiependence. They have also appeared on BBC Introducing Belfast and performed on Irish TV Series Other Voices.

October 2023 saw them embark on their first UK and Ireland headline tour, playing six sold out dates in Ireland, with one extra added and still to be played at Limerick’s Milk Market in December due to phenomenal demand. Alongside this, the band played their first headline show in London at Camden Assembly, which sold out straight away.

Last week they announced a new headline tour across the UK in 2024. The band will play King Tut’s (Glasgow)  on Thursday 15th February, The Wardrobe (Leeds) on Friday 16th February,, Deaf Institute (Manchester) on Saturday 17th February, Clwb Ifor Bach (Cardiff) on Monday 19th February, Hare and Hounds (Birmingham) on Tuesday 20th February, Lafayette (London) on Thursday 22nd February and Olympia Theatre (Dublin) on Friday 22nd March.
