“Fake Me Out” is the follow-up to their recently released song “Oh, Songbird” (December 2023) both songs are from the upcoming new album Rapture Waltz which was recorded with Grammy-nominated Wes Sharon (Greg Allman, Doobie Brothers, John Fullbright, Turnpike Troubadours).

what a cracker it is. Sitting somewhere between pop accessibility and rock groove, power-pop weight, and garage rock abrasiveness, it ticks lots of boxes for any discerning music fan” — Big Takeover

The genre-bending songs on the upcoming album cover a wide palette. They range from piano ballads like the Beatlesque “Better Unsaid” to Red Hot Chili Peppers’ rhythmic funk-rock, Metallica’s precision speed-metal “Polarity” and the ‘90s-era emo leaning “So Much Better” sometimes within a single song, as in the opening “Fake Me Out,” an interior monologue that explores Johnny’s own lifelong battle with bipolarity.

Johnny shares, “Fake Me Out” is about dealing with bipolar disorder, and the difficulties in writing and creating when dealing with it. It comes into play with art, relationships, and every part of my life. It always feels like I’m faking myself out with one way of thinking, and one way of feeling, just enough to trip me up when my brain switches again. In the inpatient treatment, they have you write up these plans on what you do when things get bad, and that’s what the bridge is about. Sometimes you forget what you wrote, and what the plan was, and you feel so lost in it. This song, musically and lyrically, is the way it can feel to swing between mania and depression”. He continues, “We recorded this at prairie sun studios in California. The studio has this beautiful 9-foot Steinway grand that was perfect for the song. We added several aux percussion parts of us just bashing sticks and rocks against the barn room floor and the gobo stands, and it added so much cool texture to it”.
