Today (30th January), Columbus alternative duo The Orphan The Poet start the year by releasing new single ‘Daisies’, a playful exploration of identity and two worlds colliding. Listen to ‘Daisies’ here. Watch the video here.

Vocalist David Eselgroth comments on the track, “‘Daisies’ is about two people— a shy wallflower not sure how to ‘let go’ and a free spirit who’s never known a high they didn’t chase. What I love about the song is that it really captures my identity crisis of figuring out which one of those characters I see in the mirror each day. We wrote and produced the song in our home studios which is one of my favourite ways to work— there’s a certain freeness to chase sounds or ideas we might not otherwise. And I think that comes across in Daisies. From nods to classic songs to lyrics pulled from our fav movies, we left a few Easter eggs for fans to find…”.

Following in the footsteps of fellow Columbus natives and influences twentyone pilots, David Eselgroth (vocals) and Jake Floyd (guitars) were raised on a diet of local garage bands and a soundtrack from alt heavyweights Weezer and Green Day. With no go-to local music venue at the time, weekends were spent jamming with like-minded musicians and attending guerilla DIY shows. As personal musical tastes evolved, discovering records from the likes of Phoebe Bridgers and The Driver Era, David and Jake were intent on creating their own imprint of ear grabbing alt-rock, culminating in the formation of The Orphan The Poet.

2022 saw their US breakthrough, with the release of single ‘Feelin’ Good (Could Be Better)’, co-written and co-produced by close-collaborator, Matt Squire (Ariana Grande, Panic! at the Disco, Demi Lovato). They saw a wealth of playlist support from Apple Music and Spotify, and subsequently featured on FOX Sports during US college football season. The band’s next single ‘Carolina Reaper’ followed later in 2022, with support from SiriusXM’s Alt Nation.

To date, The Orphan The Poet have rapidly gained fans all over the US by taking their electric shows to stages at Firefly Music Festival, Riotfest, and Summerfest, garnering praise from SiriusXM’s Alt Nation, KROQ, and BBC Radio 1 along the way.

The Orphan The Poet want you to know they’re here and not going anywhere. Having spent recent months working on new music which will be released later this year, the duo will also make their UK debut in 2024. Watch this space for further announcements.
