Today, CT based indie-rock collective Bonsai Trees released their latest single “Easy To Forget”, signaling a new era for the project with vocalist and songwriter James MacPherson as the singular creative voice. New musicians have also been added to the mix, notably drummer Will Swzec. You can stream the new song here. “Easy To Forget” leans into the hook heavy brand of alternative that fans of the project have come to love – emphasizing a catchy melody and effervescent instrumentals. MacPherson is ubiquitous in their approach, blending a powerhouse vocal style with insightful and clever lyrics that speak to deeply emotional issues with a wry sense of humor. Lightning-in-a-bottle guitar riffs and caustic percussion tie the song together- fans of modern emo, radio ready indie-pop and alternative rock will all find something to love. You can stream the track here. Speaking on the theme of their latest single, MacPherson has this to say: “‘Easy To Forget’ is a song about finding yourself again after a long time feeling disconnected. The themes in this song are repression and dissociation from reality; the long journey back to yourself after being inauthentic for a long time, and all the bitterness/sarcasm/resentment that comes along with that. I get into that theme right away in the first line – ‘Oh- you gave me the world… guess I’ll take it’. This gift of the world (in its current state) is something I have to accept reluctantly and sarcastically. I leave a lot of space in these verses because I have nothing to say. I’m absent, somewhere else…frustrated, until the bridge where I finally say what I mean
Bonsai Trees has plans to release more music throughout the year, along with introducing new fans to their music with their upcoming dates. Full show itinerary is below. |
