Today, London-based alternative metallers HAWXX tackle the climate emergency and capitalism with the release of their documentary-styled music video for new single ‘Soulbreaking Machines’.

Watch the music video to ‘Soulbreaking Machines’ here.

On the new single, the band comment:
The soulbreaking machines are the systems that turn everything into profit, commodifying the natural world, our creativity, our time, and our very minds. As if the only way to exist within capitalism is to shut down the part of ourselves that says ‘this is not okay, we are killing everything’. The need for money just to exist keeps us so busy that we don’t find time to actually sit and consider whether we endorse the life we are living. This song questions how we can stop and listen, to remember that we ourselves are nature; that this is happening to us.”

The music video, directed by Adam Razvi, offers the viewer wider social-political context behind the track. The film combines portraits and interviews from protestors at a recent Extinction Rebellion demonstration, alongside the HAWXX performance and carefully selected footage which highlights the urgent need for climate action.

The feminist four-piece will also be playing ‘Soulbreaking Machines’ at their single launch show on 3rd June in Camden’s Black Heart, London, and the track follows on from the band’s previous single ‘The Worst Thing‘. The gig will be hosted by drag queen Copper Top (Ru Paul’s Drag Race S4), with support from Death Goals.

HAWXX hail from Greece, Italy, Wales, and England, with a sound that is made up of four-part harmonies, drop tuned heavy riffs and progressive drums. Writing songs about oppressive beauty standards, mental health struggles, violence against women, self empowerment, this is more than just a band, it’s a necessary vehicle of catharsis, love and rage. As a feminist band it is HAWXX‘s aim to be a part of the changing landscape of the rock and metal world and for their gigs to be a brave space with women, trans and non-binary people at the centre.

Summer of 2022 saw the axe-wielding metallers embark on a tour across the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands supporting Alter Bridge‘s Mark Tremonti, with slots at Download Festival, Radar Fest, Great Escape, Summer Breeze in Germany, and Burn it Down Festival respectively sprinkled throughout. As well as being endorsed by Jackson Guitars, Rotosound Strings and Victory Amplifiers, winning the PRS Women Make Music Award, playing a exclusive performance at the Heavy Music Awards and playing a packed out tent at Bloodstock Festival described by Metal Planet Music as an ‘I was there’ moment, Hannah and Anna were also listed in Metal Hammers list of “13 Metal Guitarists That Will Change the World.”
