‘Continuous Hole’ is a collaborative album between Drew Daniel (Matmos, The Soft Pink Truth) and John Wiese (Sissy Spacek, Smegma, LHD) and is the fruit of more than a decade of recordings in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Baltimore.

The record melds improvisation and musique concrète composition into a unique document of labour-intensive rhythm. A finger puzzle of reconciled opposites: lockstep structure and constant flux. Relentlessly variable source material is relegated to precisely timed gated forms and patterns. Without using any sampling or MIDI sequencing, the rhythmic cuts are constructed entirely from volcanic, gnarled abstraction and eschew typical genre elements.

Raw yet precise, from mayhem to menace, this is an album of strong contrasts by two American artists discovering common ground in the joy of frenzied cutting. Tracks such as ‘Un Mask’ (NEW VIDEO), ‘Abhorred Shears’ (VIDEO) and ‘Scramble Suit/e’ (VIDEO) are perhaps reminiscent of the cut-up works of albums such as ‘Love’s Secret Domain’ by Coil, yet remain utterly unique.

A prolific recording and visual artist with an extensive discography under his own name as well as with noise stalwarts Sissy Spacek, John Wiese is currently based in Cleveland, Ohio. One half of the electronic band Matmos and all of The Soft Pink Truth, Drew Daniel is based in Baltimore, Maryland.

‘Continuous Hole’ has been mastered by Thomas Dimuzio, with this brand new CD format presented in a matt-laminate 6-panel digipak with photography by John Wiese. The cover photo was shot by Wiese in Daniel’s office on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, where Daniel is a professor of English.
