Montreal duo – BIBI CLUB – are heading back to the UK this Summer for a support slot with Blonde Redhead in London.
Following a triumphant start to the year, the pair will be bringing their rapturous live show to The Lexington on 20 July. Following the UK release of their debut album ‘Le soleil et la mer’ earlier this year, the forthcoming London show will also come fresh off the back of a slot at SXSW in Texas, appearances at FOCUS Wales and a handful of packed-out performances at Brighton’s The Great Escape this Spring.
An ideal accompaniment for the warmer weather and brighter days, ‘Le soleil et la mer’ landed as a dazzling testament to Bibi Club’s breadth and brawn. A sprawling eight-track release performed in both French and English, the record saw the duo funnel fuzzy guitar riffs and gleaming synths through a warped looking glass — floating in like a faraway song carried on the breeze,  ‘Le soleil et la mer’’s arrival marked the beginning of a shimmering, chic and long-overdue party.
Building on the foundations they’d each laid as members of various other musical projects, singer-keyboardist Adèle Trottier-Rivard and guitarist Nicolas Basque formed Bibi Club in 2016. From the get-go the band have embraced minimalism, and focused on channelling raw musical power rather than over-embellishing their sound.
The duo’s 2019 debut EP ‘Bibi Club’ showcased radical sonic exploration: across four bold tracks they immediately established a musical language that was rooted in authenticity and individuality, and the pair have been attempting to push back space-time boundaries in their music ever since.
With a sound evocative of the Montreal scene, the two-piece pluck inspiration from ‘70s post-punk New York bands like Arthur RussellTalking Heads and Suicide, the West Coast spiritual jazz of Alice Coltrane and the current experimental pop scene in England (TirzahDean Blunt). The influence of radical movements on the pair is undeniable, but at their core Bibi Club convey a cosy sense of cheerfulness — something they describe as “living-room party music”.
Now, following a whirlwind start to the year, Bibi Club are heading back to the UK this Summer to support American alt-rockers Blonde Redhead in London. Find further details below.
