“Beguiling experimental pop” CLASH

“Insightful songwriting and soaring instrumentals” – Earmilk

“Everyone has those moments whereby plugging in some headphones and tuning out from the world is the motive, and trio Arliston are making us do just this with their alt-pop” – Wonderland

ARLISTON return with the stirring and spirited new single: “Hold My Wine”, taken from forthcoming EP ‘Even In The Shade’.

With a bold and rhythmic sound that feels worlds away from delicate earlier release “Mothering”, the clinquant cut sees Arliston make a break for more plucky and playful territory.
Blending buoyant acoustic guitars with crisp, clean vocals and meticulous ‘80s-inspired synths that scintillate and sway like a glimmer of sunshine across water, the new track manages to feel deeply nostalgic whilst still resisting cliché.
A testament to the band’s musical maturity, vocalist Jack Ratcliffe explains:
“We’ve been wanting to make something a bit more playful for a while, so when we first hit on that chorus idea and made a silly middle-class pun on ‘hold my beer’, everything just fell into place around it. This one was a lot of fun to make.”
Never ones to make their music straightforward though, “Hold My Wine” crafts a bittersweet sense of  sentimentality as it contrasts its uplifting chords and shimmering melodies with a more sombre subject matter. Jack adds:
“The song is about that occasional moment of recognition when you look up from the narrow corridor of your own thoughts and are seized by the idea that everyone else has progressed and developed, while you are stuck in an unchanged rut. The protagonist attempts to do something about it in the chorus — but inevitably, he gets it wrong.”
Arriving as an optimistic and assured follow-up to the quiet circumspection on “Mothering”, “Hold My Wine” is a second glimpse into Arliston’s upcoming EP ‘Even In The Shade’. Set for release in November, the new extended play was mixed and mastered by Brett Shaw (Florence and the Machine, Foals) at 123 Studios and sees Arliston uphold the momentum built on earlier release ‘The Ground Might Disappear’.
With intricate production and tight musicianship seeing the band expertly toe the line between optimism and melancholia, Arliston have amassed over 38,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and gained placement on a number of the streaming giant’s editorial playlists including New Music Friday and The Most Beautiful Songs In The World. Well and truly embedding themselves in the indie music scene, Arliston have also gained praise from the likes of Notion, Wonderland, Earmilk and CLOUT with the latter saying “Arliston have star quality written all over them”. Elsewhere, Clash Magazine have lauded the band’s music as “beguiling experimental pop”, with The 405 applauding their “swirling ambient sensitivity.”
Marking a clear and confident departure from their previous work, ‘Even In The Shade’ illustrates deftly how the band’s sound continues to shift and evolve in new and expected ways, and second sampler “Hold My Wine” earmarks Arliston as dreamy and diaphanous ones to watch.
