Nerves share first music of 2026 with “N26”

Nerves by Emmet McNamee
Nerves return with their first new music of 2026 in the form of “N26”, a sharp, anxious blast that captures the band at their most immediate and confrontational.
Originally formed in County Mayo and now based in Dublin, Nerves have steadily built a reputation as one of Ireland’s most uncompromising live acts. Their shows feel less like performances and more like pressure points, all volume, tension and release, earning them tours alongside some of the buzziest new names in the circuit, Maruja and Gurriers, as well as shows with noise-rock royalty, The Jesus Lizard. That word of mouth has been matched by growing critical support from Kerrang!, The Line of Best Fit, CLASH, Cvlt Nation, Louder Than War, Hot Press, Rough Trade, Metal Sucks and vairous playback across BBC Radio 6.
Their 2025 EP Iarmhaireacht marked a turning point. A record rooted in atmosphere and narrative as much as abrasion, it traced a line between rural memory and present day unease, pairing archival textures with tightly wound, industrial-leaning arrangements. It introduced a broader emotional range to the band’s sound without sacrificing any of its force, and positioned Nerves as something more expansive than a noise rock outlier.
“N26” feels like a direct continuation of that trajectory, but with the dial pushed further into the red. Produced once again by Daniel Fox of Gilla Band, the track condenses their approach into three relentless minutes. There are traces of techno in its pulse, but it lands with the blunt impact of noise rock, drawing a line between the mechanical and the visceral.

Lyrically, the song confronts the slow erosion of rural Irish towns, where opportunity thins out and younger generations are left in suspension. It is a theme that ran beneath Iarmhaireacht, but here it is brought into sharper focus, less abstract, more accusatory. The result is a track that feels both personal and systemic, urgent without losing its sense of place.
With more new music expected across 2026, “N26” arrives as a clear opening statement. On stage, that momentum is already underway, including a headline appearance at the tenth anniversary of Supersonic Festival, signalling a year that looks set to push the band further beyond the margins they first emerged from.
Today, Nerves also announce their next headline show Dublin’s Workman’s Club on the 6th of June.
