“we are in the presence of greatness here.” – MOJO ★★★★

“a catch-in-your-throat solo album from Wednesday’s guitarist.” – Uncut (9/10)

“Lenderman’s off-kilter observations are enveloped in a haze of melancholy, but there’s a comforting, wool-blanket warmth to the tone of his guitar and the broken croak of his voice.” – New York Times

“joyously weird alt-Americana… Featuring possibly his best track yet, the North Carolina guitarist-songwriter goes to the sparse and seamy side on this worthy successor to Boat Songs.” – The Observer ★★★★

“Lenderman is one of indie rock’s brightest young stars.”  NME ★★★★

“‘a quiet revelation… the sound of a modern master at work.” – DORK ★★★★

Further praise for MJ Lenderman & Manning Fireworks:

“’Manning Fireworks’ sad sack anthems tap into something devastatingly, purely human“ #13 in The Guardian’s 50 Best Albums of 2024

“If there is to be a US slacker rock revival (and please let that happen), then MJ Lenderman is leading the way. Lenderman is a wickedly smart writer, summing up the ennui and loneliness of our modern online lives, like Phoebe Bridgers at her best.” #13 in The Times’ 25 Best Albums of 2024

“An understated triumph.”- #14 in NME’s 50 Best Albums of 2024

“MJ Lenderman effortlessly mixes the cool of Pavement, the noise of Sonic Youth and the melodies of Neil Young. And enthrones himself as the new prince of indie rock.” – Télérama (FR) Top 35 best albums of 2024

“Perhaps the best, but certainly the most laid-back guitarist of his generation is an equally brilliant (and laid-back!) songwriter.” – Rolling Stone (DE) – #15 in The 50 Best Albums of the Year 2024

“Lenderman captures something true and profound about what it’s like to come of age in a world that is hugely unsteady, and how dark it can feel, not knowing what to do with your yearning.” — The New Yorker, #1 in “The Best Albums of 2024”

“Manning Fireworks claims Americana for the kids with revoked drivers licenses and the families with Christmas decorations in the yard in June; it claims rock for the unheroic and uncool, the purveyors of awkward pauses.” — NPR Music, The 50 Best Albums of 2024

“Lenderman is able to cut through the wit and expose raw loneliness, cementing himself as one of Gen-Z’s sharpest lyricists.” — VOGUE, “The 36 Best Albums of 2024”

“Manning Fireworks proceeds like a greatest hits collection. Every line is a short story. Its jokes are profound, its wisdom ridiculous, its irreverence wide-eyed and irresistible.” — Pitchfork, #4 in “The 50 Best Albums of 2024”

“Combining a sweet, slacker’s neigh and a disarmingly precise pen, MJ Lenderman sings like someone who doesn’t care but writes like someone who secretly, very deeply, does.” — New York Times, #1 in Lindsay Zoladz’ Best Albums of 2024

“Odds are high people will be checking out the Himbo Dome for years, if not decades, to come.” — UPROXX, “The Best Albums of 2024″

“one of those singles where the first time you heard it, you knew you were listening to something special.” — Treble on “She’s Leaving You,” #3 in “The Best Songs of 2024”

“On Manning Fireworks — and its collection of rootsy, reserved, reflective tunes — the Asheville songwriter is well on his way to becoming a folk hero for the light-beer-drinking, good-natured, bleeding hearts of the underground.”— Consequence, #18 in “50 Best Albums of 2024”
