‘HEART OF GOLD’

Mirrorglass is a rock band based in Ireland, formed in 2022. The project is spearheaded by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Joshua Bowles.
In January 2024, following a string of shows and the release of his debut single, ‘Hey Honey’, he won Cavan Institute’s Win Big Song Contest with the song ‘Where Will You Go?’. He decided to release the song as part of the Mirrorglass catalogue in May 2024 as a single. Following this, he released ‘Let’s Go To Mine’ and played a handful of shows across the east coast of Ireland. (full artist bio is available via the assets folder).
After just one show in 2025, the band returned to the stage with their ambitions high in 2026 with shows in Belfast & Dublin already in the bag and a forthcoming night in Dundalk just around the corner. They kicked off the year with the release of the single ‘Better Off Dead’ which immediately increased their visibility with global airplay and favourable reviews and followed that up with ‘Wasted Time’ which continued their growth and has been their most played single on the radio to-date!

‘Heart Of Gold’ was the first ever song I wrote on keyboard. Before this, I wrote everything on guitar and had whoever was in the band playing keyboard, play whatever it was in my head or I had on guitar. The keyboard riff to ‘Secretly’, written on guitar. The piano parts in ‘Where Will You Go?’ were all lead parts on guitar.
So, I was late into demoing what would become ‘Handle With Care’. I had Paul set to lay down drum tracks for 11 songs in one week, when I sat down just to mess with the keyboard. I only just got it for recording and could half play my songs. I just knew them well enough that I made it work. I remember that evening, just playing a few simple chords and the melodies started flowing. I don’t know exactly what I was feeling that night but every now and again a song makes you excited, and from the first few notes I felt it. It just touched an inner nerve for me, scratched a musical itch. I finished it the following day. ‘Better Off Dead’ was actually not going to be on the album at that point, so I borrowed some things from that song and turned it into ‘Heart Of Gold’. Low and behold, they’re side by side on the final album!
Paul liked it, I was buzzed so I got the demo together quickly, sent it to him and we recorded it the following week along with the rest of the tracks. It’s my personal favourite on the album. It’s like the culmination of all the elements I had been experimenting with on that record, in one perfect song for the album. It closed the chapter perfectly for me. – Joshua Bowles
