Mike Tramp will release an album entitled ‘Songs Of White Lion’ on 14th April via Frontiers Music Srl, which sees the respected vocalist and guitarist reimagining a selection of tracks by his former band. A first single from the record, ‘Cry For Freedom’, is available now, while a sampling of other tracks can be heard HERE.
Tramp will be embarking on a ‘Songs of White Lion’ US tour in May 2023, preceded by his participation in The Original Rock Meets Classic Tour in Germany in April alongside Joey Tempest, Dee Snider, Mick Box & Bernie Shaw, Ronnie Romero and Maggie Reilly.
“The period between 1983-1991 was a once in a lifetime experience,” recalls Tramp. “Everything I did back then was for the first time, and even though it was beyond exciting and adventurous, when it came to an end, it was more than just the end of a band, it was also the end of a very specific time in my life. Now we are in 2023 and I have recorded an album of the ‘big’ White Lion songs as close to the originals as possible, but I am not 26 anymore and so have explored parts I feel should be that way today, as this is the only way I can embrace them and feel at home and be honest to both myself and the songs.”
White Lion formed in 1983 and signed to Atlantic, enjoying substantial success with their second album, ‘Pride’ (1987), which included the hits ‘Wait’ and ‘When the Children Cry’. They maintained their winning streak with ‘Big Game’ (1991) and ‘Mane Attraction’ (1992) before disbanding.
Tramp subsequently formed the hard rock band Freak Of Nature, who had a much darker vibe, releasing three albums before they split and Tramp began a solo career that commenced with ‘Capricorn’ (1998) and ‘Recovering The Wasted Years’ (2002). He toured and recorded as Mike Tramp’s White Lion from 2004-2008 and eventually as White Lion for ‘Return Of The Pride’ in 2008.
Since then, Tramp has released nine solo albums, the most recent being ‘For Første Gang’ (2022). He has also toured regularly as both a solo acoustic act and with a backing band, and has no plans to slow down at any time soon.
