“Sounding as ruthless and chaotic as ever.” – BrooklynVegan “Self-Tape is a sinister experience that defies conventional genre classification, instead demanding that the listener subject themselves to the intensity it contains and figure out what’s going on as they go alone.” – New Transcendence “Mouthbreather once again unleash their rollercoaster of sound and style, offers a distinctive blend of heavy hitting tracks with moments of brilliance.” – Boolin Tunes
Massachusetts metal band MouthBreather have released their new album, Self-Tape, on Good Fight Music. Self-Tape is unrelentingly heavy, crushing, and unforgiving. Each of the ten tracks on the record were influenced by films that have inspired the band at key points in their lives, from horror to drama, creating jarring and introspective lyrics. The band fuses together elements of metallic hardcore, technical metal, post-hardcore, nu-metal, and more into a frenzied swirl. Scathing vocals pair with odd time-signatures, hardcore breakdowns meet electronic noise. It’s a wild ride, and a masterclass in experimentation that MouthBreather has become known for across their four albums. The record was produced by Nick Cates and Ryan Fosdick, and mixed by Nick Cates, at Burnout Labs, and mastered by Jay Maas (Defeater) at Getaway Recording. Self-Tape is available now through Good Fight Music. MouthBreather was founded in 2016 by guitarist Ryan Fosdick, joined thereafter by drummer Nick Cates and bassist Derek Lamerouex, assuming it’s ultimate form with Brett Cates taking over vocals. The band made their debut with 2017’s Pig, followed by 2018’s Dollmeat, and 2021’s I’m Sorry Mr. Salesman. MouthBreather will head out on tour this December tour alongside Left To Suffer, Tallah, Chamber, and Tracheotomy. You can find a full list of upcoming shows below.
