MAWIZA, the Mapuche metal band from Wallmapu, have released “Wüzapiwken” (Divided Heart), accompanied by an official music video. It is the first song to be shared from IÑ MONGELETEW (Those Who Give Us Life), the acoustic EP announced today as the follow-up to their 2025 album ÜL, their first for Season of Mist.

Sung in Mapuzungun, “Wüzapiwken” speaks to the heart of indigenous life, which is divided between the city and its native land. Scraping rhythms and piercing chants carry a dark atmosphere and harsh tones that are not meant to please but to challenge the Western ear, resisting postcard folklore. The text draws on ritual: it begins as an address to the elder spirits of the territory and ends by thanking those who have listened.

“Wüzapiwken” is one of two new songs on IÑ MONGELETEW, alongside “Mür”, which features Mira Ceti (Heilung), Anne Olesen (Danefae) and the Mapuche activist Fabi Liqen. The EP also includes acoustic versions of three songs from ÜL: “Wingkawnoam”, “Mamüll Reke” and “Ti Inan Paw-Pawkan”. By unplugging from the noise of modern metal, Mawiza do not soften their sound. The reimagined songs are strengthened by their essential elements, and acoustic instruments amplify the band’s call for decolonization and reconnecting with nature. The EP is neither soft nor quiet.

Mawiza were founded in 2014 and have sung exclusively in Mapuzungun since 2021. Metal Hammer named them the most important new metal band of 2025 on the strength of ÜL, and the band have shared stages with Gojira, Mastodon, Mercyful Fate and Sepultura, and played Wacken Open Air and Knotfest Chile. In October 2026 they joined Sepultura for the band’s final show in Santiago, Chile, where the two bands performed “Kaiowas” together, a performance that inspired IÑ MONGELETEW.

“Wüzapiwken” and its video are available now. IÑ MONGELETEW is a digital-only release on Season of Mist: it streams in full on November 5th, 2026, and is released on November 6th, 2026. To mark the release, Mawiza will tour Chile with a special acoustic run of shows in November 2026, and they join Slipknot in Santiago in 2027.

Mawiza says:

“‘Wüzapiwken’ is a song with a divided heart. It’s a ritual that transforms into song and is deliberately unclear where one ends and the other begins. It opens with a greeting to nature, announcing what is about to be sung, and releases the feelings held within a divided heart into the space where we live.”

On IÑ MONGELETEW, Mawiza unplug without softening, and sing the divided heart in the language of this land.
