MAC WETHA
SHARES NEW SINGLE
- RACHEL CHINOURIRI
“FAIRYTALE”
Multi-faceted artist and producer Mac Wetha shares his new single ‘Fairytale’ featuring rising London singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri, who recently featured on BBC’s ‘Sound Of…2023’ longlist.
Driven by an upbeat and irrepressibly catchy guitar riff, ‘Fairytale’ features Mac and Rachel’s mellifluous vocals and tender and emotive lyricism that detail the disillusionment of unrequited love and the misplaced idealism of a romantic fantasy.
Mac says of the single: “Rachel’s lyric ‘you’re not my fairytale guy, I compromised’ sums up what this one is all about; forcing yourself to make a relationship work because you think it’s meant to be, and then realising ultimately it’s not :’(. I’ve been a fan of Rachel’s for a while now so I’m honoured to have made this with her, as with my previous two collaborative singles the song came together very quickly and naturally and was just fun! Shout out Kurisu on the co-prod and co-writing and for hosting us at his place to record. Hope you all enjoy x” – Mac
“I heard the vibe of the track and I found it quite fun. The energy of the guitar, the vocal on it too! I listened into the story and then really thought what kind of energy I wanted to put into it. There’s a balance I wanted to achieve because of my tone and a counter to feeling a pressure of unrequited love essentially. He wasn’t my “fairytale guy”. It was fun making this and getting this concept which might not be noticed straight away because of the production, but I love it a lot” – Rachel
‘Fairytale’ follows ‘Don’t You Go Falling In Love’ which featured Biig Piig and London rapper Lord Apex, and ‘Play Pretend’ which featured US multi-instrumentalist spill tab. His recent singles shows Mac returning to his collaborative roots, which played a formative role in his musical career as resident producer in the NiNE8 Collective.
The latest singles follow the release of Mac’s acclaimed “Cloud Paint” EP, a free-spirited collection of his formative pop punk and emo influences showcasing some of his most forward-facing and irrefutably energetic tracks, including the incendiary “Dani Song” and the pop-punk hued celebration of life “Feel Better (Infinite Pitbulls)”.
Mac Wetha is the resident producer of the widely admired London-based NiNE8 Collective, producing tracks for crew members including Biig Piig and Lava LaRue, alongside the occasional juggernaut like Aminé. He’s also toured with the labelmate beabadoobee, and the likes of Deb Never and SadNightDynamite.
