MAC WETHA
SHARES NEW SINGLE
FT. JUNIOR VARSITY
“RED HOOK”
OUT NOW
Multi-faceted artist and producer Mac Wetha shares his new single “Red Hook” featuring rising Los Angeles duo Junior Varsity.
With the track finding a balance between melancholy and gentle euphoria, Mac Wetha’s innate ability to create genre-non-conforming works is undeniable. “Red Hook” confidently takes its place among Mac’s multi-faceted discography.
Mac says of the collaboration: “I’ve been a fan of the JV guys for a long time now, I got into their music around the same time I started recording my own vocals under the Mac Wetha moniker. Who knew a couple years later I’d not only have made a song with them, but also am lucky enough to call them friends. We linked up in LA last summer and made Red Hook on an extremely hot day in a very cold room. I recorded my vocals on my phone in the bathroom. The song is about car crashes; driving in LA scared the daylight out of me and I was in two very minor collisions in the two weeks I spent there. Drive safe and enjoy the song.”
‘Red Hook’ follows ‘Fairytale’ ft.
His recent singles shows Mac returning to his collaborative roots, which played a formative role in his musical career as resident producer in the NiNE8 Collective.
The latest singles follow the release of Mac’s acclaimed “Cloud Paint” EP, a free-spirited collection of his formative pop punk and emo influences showcasing some of his most forward-facing and irrefutably energetic tracks, including the incendiary “Dani Song” and the pop-punk hued celebration of life “Feel Better (Infinite Pitbulls)”.
Mac Wetha is the resident producer of the widely admired London-based NiNE8 Collective, producing tracks for crew members including Biig Piig and Lava LaRue, alongside the occasional juggernaut like Aminé. He’s also toured with the labelmate beabadoobee, and the likes of Deb Never and SadNightDynamite.
“Mac Wetha & Friends 2” is the start of a brand new chapter for Mac, watch this space for more.
