“Nu-gothika” innovators KNIFE BRIDE have completed a nightmarish trilogy of tracks titled ‘don’t dream too much’ with the release of new single ‘permanent s m i l e’. This cut represents the most vivid part of sleep where dreams are so in reach that you could wake up and put yourself back there. It propels the band’s ability to collide vibrant pop sensibilities and a moody metal aura to new levels of creativity. Vocalist Mollie Buckley says “‘permanent s m i l e’ is a romanticised revenge narrative. I’ve always been fascinated with films like ‘I Spit On Your Grave’, ‘Hard Candy’, and ‘Promising Young Woman’ and that’s definitely where the concept for the song came from. Retribution is always sweet… or so says cinema.” Buckley proclaims the collection as a whole is “A trilogy of my gruesome dreams. A one night cycle of disturbing visions.” The new single follows the release of ‘sacrifice/surrender’, which “represents the most paralysing part of sleep,” and ‘smother (make me suffer)’, which pokes fun at the male gaze and conjures “the flickery eye, heart racing, electric pulsing part of falling into sleep.” This first single of the three to be released was Track of The Week on BBC Radio 1 Introducing Rock, as well as receiving play on Future Artists and the Rock Show. It has also been spun on Kerrang! Radio Fresh Blood, attained the heady heights of the Kerrang! Chart, made it into Metal Hammer’s Tracks of The Week and enjoyed many other accolades and placements besides. KNIFE BRIDE’s intense and unique cocktail of pop and metal was brought to life in this trilogy at The Ranch Production studios by Neil Kennedy (Creeper, Milk Teeth, Boston Manor) and Lewis Johns (Palm Reader, Ithaca, Employed to Serve). KNIFE BRIDE have recently been seen whipping up a frenzy live supporting Hanabie at their sold out London Underworld show and at Liverpool’s No Play Fest. Next up, the band will be playing and hosting a special ‘don’t dream too much’ EP release party at Blondies in London on 1st September, which is free entry and will feature a host of special guests. They’ve also got a couple more festivals on the horizon with more in the works. KNIFE BRIDE formed in Brighton and released a series of singles last year, gaining attention from the likes of Alyx Holcombe at BBC Radio 1 Introducing Rock and earning them a WARGASM support slot for their first ever tour. They’ve also already played Download, Burn It Down and The Great Escape Festivals. Inky influences including Spiritbox and Kate Bush, as well as Bring Me The Horizon, melt with prog-tinged riffs inspired by Karnivool, that are fused with cinematic fantasy to create character narratives and explore human experiences. KNIFE BRIDE proudly pay homage to powerful, nuanced women such as The Bride from Kill Bill.
