Today, Juan Wauters is back with the second single to be released from the forthcoming album, the charming “Dime Amiga,” alongside the song’s accompanying video, starring his daughter. It begins with Juan walking into a doughnut shop to buy himself and his daughter a sweet treat to enjoy, but when it comes time to pony up, he realizes he can’t afford it. He decides that in order to earn the rest of the money he needs, he’ll busk. While Wauters performs on a subway platform, his daughter wanders off, embarking on a “Baby’s Day Out” style adventure through New York City, eventually discovering an envelope filled with cash and saving the day. Written and directed by Lucía Garibaldi, Fatos Marishta, Eric McLeland, Matthew Volz and Juan Wauters, camera by Marishta and edited by Garibaldi. Special thanks to Demetri and the staff at Peter Pan Donuts in Brooklyn, NY.
Last month, the Uruguayan singer-songwriter and Queens legend Wauters shared “If It’s Not Luv” and announced the upcoming release of his seventh studio album, MVD LUV, for a June 27th release via Captured Tracks. Remezcla called the song an “…instant singalong [recalling] South American folk without sounding anything other than Juan, embodying his artistry.”
A tender moment of friendship and care, “Dime Amiga” finds Juan Wauters offering a shoulder to lean on. Set to a vibrant, swaying rhythm, the song unfolds like a conversation with a trusted confidant — one who knows when to speak and when to simply listen. With lyrics in Spanish, Wauters taps into the quiet power of presence, reminding us how healing it can be to ask, “How are you? Why are you crying?” Rooted in the intimacy of everyday connection, it’s a beautiful example of the heart and humanity that run through MVD LUV.
Speaking on the song, Wauters says, “‘Dime Amiga’ (Tell Me Friend) is a song that sparked while seeing my daughter cry. I had my guitar in hand and the chorus just came out as we were there. ‘Tell me friend how you are doing. Tell me friend why you’re crying.’ After coming up with that part, I expanded and finished the song over the following days. I wanted the song to highlight life’s difficulties and how important it is to have a friend on your side if it ever gets hard. Another message I wanted to convey within the song was that I’m here for when she needs me. Aside from being here now, I am here forever.”

About MVD LUV:
Juan Wauters’ MVD LUV is more than just an album—it’s a homecoming. For the first time in his career, Wauters has recorded a full-length project in his birthplace of Montevideo, Uruguay, embracing the city’s rich musical traditions while continuing to push the boundaries of his distinctive songwriting. A love letter to both his roots and his present, MVD LUV brings Uruguayan sounds to the global stage, incorporating candombe and murga rhythms into Wauters’ signature fusion of folk, pop, and experimentation.
Having spent much of his career in the United States, Wauters has long carried the dual identity of immigrant and native son. With MVD LUV, he set out to bridge those worlds, capturing the essence of Montevideo’s streets, homes, and communal spirit. The album was recorded in various locations across the city, from his own studio to sidewalks, rooftops, and the homes of featured musicians. This approach lends the project a raw authenticity, making Montevideo itself feel like an active presence in the music.
Thematically, MVD LUV explores identity, nostalgia, and human connection. Tracks like “Manejando por Pando” and “Siempre Vuelven” reflect on returning home and the passage of time, while “If It’s Not Luv” and “Dime Amiga” delve into love, companionship, and personal reflection. “Ando con Miedo” captures urban anxieties, juxtaposing introspection with the vibrant rhythms of the city. Throughout, Wauters crafts a deeply personal yet universal meditation on belonging.
With MVD LUV, Juan Wauters presents a vibrant, heartfelt exploration of place and identity, creating an album that feels both deeply rooted and universally resonant. This is a record that doesn’t just introduce listeners to Montevideo—it invites them to feel at home within it.
