Joe Maxi Release Lynchian Chaotic New Single ‘The Game’ (Irish Post-Punk)

Building on the momentum they set in motion with their blistering single ‘Butterfly’, a chaotic whirling dervish of a track that caught the attention of Hot Press ‘Underground rock in all its glory’, The Thin Air, IMRO, Ragged Cast, Genuine Irish, Turn Up The Volume, New Music Sonar and Rock N Load, amongst others!  Joe Maxi return with new single ‘The Game’, showcasing another facet of the band entirely. ‘The Game’ finds the band veering between being the resident lounge act for a very David Lynch cabaret and spilling all manner of sonic dissonance and hell upon us. The juxtaposition of these movements that are poles apart serve to pull the listener deeper and deeper into their psychosis. In other hands these disparate elements might become non-sensical but in the Joe Maxi vernacular they become complimentary bed fellows, two sides of the same maniacal coin.

Mikey Fowler (vocals/guitar) says the track is based around the idea that since his mid-teens he has tricked himself into believing he’s living in a simulation, one that he is happily enjoying. He took the opportunity to share his world view in the context of his simulated experience. The song touches on how he believes people are overworked and lack time for connection as well as discussing the rise of AI and its effect on how we tell stories.

This is the second single taken from the bands forthcoming EP of the same name.
