Jasmine Thakral’s Horror-Inspired Single “Vampire” Warns of Energy Vampires

East Sussex-based singer-songwriter Jasmine Thakral has released her latest single, “Vampire,” a horror-inspired track that serves as a reminder to avoid toxic people who drain our energy.

Of the song, British-Indian Jasmine Thakral says:
“‘Vampire’ is a song about when you meet someone who’s an ‘energy vampire’ and drains you of all your energy. It’s an indie pop tune with horror movie lyrics. It’s set during my year abroad in Canada. Sonically I was inspired by indie pop songs by artists like BENEE, Remi Wolf and Still Woozy. I think it’s fun to have an upbeat production that contrasts with more downbeat lyrics. I had a great time collaborating on the song with Natti and Jack – who are both from a band I love called Fickle Friends.”

Jasmine Thakral crafts dreamy, melancholic indie pop that acts as a soundtrack for a late-night walk back home. Jasmine was raised by the holy trinity of songwriters — Taylor Swift, Lorde and Lana Del Rey. She also takes inspiration from the poeticism of Joni Mitchell and the DIY origins of Dodie, as well as the Hindi music her Indian-born parents played. She likes to write about her friendships, her state of mind and about her favorite fictional characters from TV shows and books.

Jasmine grew up in a small coastal town in East Sussex, England. She studied English Literature at university but caught up in her artistic endeavours, decided to pursue music after all. At the age of 18, she wrote her first little song on the ukulele outside a cold and empty train station. The song was about the desire to belong — a theme that continues throughout the rest of her music.

With regular releases and a growing following, Jasmine’s music is becoming a go-to for those seeking a melodic escape from the mundane. Her previous singles have garnered attention from BBC Radio, Rolling Stone India, Jammerzine, and Kajal Magazine, and recently, she was invited to perform a “Live Lounge” set at BBC Introducing Sussex and Surrey.
