Jared Gaines, Formerly Vaines, Debuts His New Sound As Rat Park, Releases Infectious New Song and Video “Missing You”
Today, LA based alternative artist Jared Gaines unveils his latest independent project Rat Park. A more rock-forward departure from his previous moniker, Vaines, the former Hopeless Records talent is reclaiming his craft with his authentic DIY approach, writing and recording music from his bedroom and filming and directing his music videos by himself.
“I was going hard with Vaines for years and I built an identity around the music I was making, so when I decided I wanted to make more rock-oriented stuff I thought it was probably best to preserve what Vaines is and let another side of me come out to play,” shares Gaines on the new venture.
Hailing from a small town in upstate New York, multi-instrumentalist Jared Gaines moved to LA to pursue his music career and distance himself from his family’s troubled history with drugs and prison. With music as an outlet and inspiration, he signed a record deal as Vaines, initially honing in on a pop sound. With Rat Park, Gaines doesn’t want to follow the rules or fit in: he’s doing things his way. Rat Park, named after an experiment done in the 1970s which tested the effects of opiates on rats, is an opportunity for Gaines’ creativity to run wild and unfiltered.
In conjunction with the debut of his new direction, Rat Park shares an impressive new single and video for “Missing You.” The pop-punk inspired, guitar-driven track is an ode to longing that packs a punch.

“The idea behind Rat Park is to have the most fun possible. Write the craziest music, rip wild solos, and sing about robbing gas stations. I’m making music for myself and I don’t care who likes it.”
Fans of Rat Park and the new song can anticipate more music coming soon. In the meantime, stay tuned for additional updates on TikTok and Instagram.
