Fresh from the release of ‘Long Face’, Malaki is proud to release his powerful new single ‘Pasta’ on June 25th, a track about the early beginnings of falling in love. Malaki has quietly positioned himself as one of Ireland’s leading rap artists, with over 35 million streams and a catalogue of deeply honest, truthful, powerful tracks that are connecting with an audience both in Ireland and across the globe.

Bursting onto the scene in January 2019 with the powerful spoken-word epic “Call Us By Our Names”, the young Dubliner has been carving out his place in Irish hip-hop ever since. Ma!aki has been an eye-witness to the steady disenfranchisement of Irish youth, a theme frequently probed in his bruising, brutally honest debut EP, ‘Butterfly Boy’

A 5 track EP ‘DFTTYM’ (Don’t Forget To Take Your Medicine) followed in 2021 with Malaki’s alter ego, Calvero, immediately giving us a taste of what was to come as he walked along the very edge of sanity puzzling over depression, anxiety, self-medication and primal fear with morbid fascination, followed by the release of ‘Never Mind’, ‘Most Days’ and his most recent offering ‘Long Face’.

Malaki synthesises a rich and original interpretation of Dublin life, seamlessly fusing personal expression with piercing social and political commentary. Songs like ‘Cuppa Tea’ and ‘Cavalier’ display an ability to conceive tongue-in-cheek lyrics injected with an air of self-aware braggadocio whereas ‘Paper Prophecies’ exposed the introspective more unsure underbelly of a wordsmith at the forefront of his craft. Someone Like You 2 saw him putting a modern day twist in his version of the Van Morrison classic.

Malaki commented; “Pasta is about the early beginnings of falling in love with someone new. In particular their characteristics and quirky mannerisms. The way they sing in the shower, Their smile, the way they light their cigarette off a taster. Sometimes it’s the little things about a person that make you think. “I might love her”

“Myself and Nick Mills (producer) wrote and recorded the track in the last hour of our first session together. It was one of those moments where everything fit into place so effortlessly. He began by playing the piano chords we hear throughout the track as I began humming the melody to the chorus. One hour later we had the track completed. All that was left was to add some additional instruments and a little bit of love and attention”
