Introducing Voice of Defiance : the new brand championed by music mavericks

INTRODUCING A BRAND THAT CHAMPIONS QUIET POWER AND PERSONAL EVOLUTION
NEVER CONFORM. ALWAYS EVOLVE. DEFY THE ODDS.
CELEBRATED BY MAVERICKS INCLUDING SIGMA, ZED BIAS, JAMES HASKELL, PASTEL AND THOMAS TURGOOSE
The AAA+ High Time Bomber from Voice_Of Defiance’s new ‘Future Classics’ collection
Voice_Of Defiance is an independent label built on the principle of being unafraid to carve your own path, to follow your inner voice, and pursue personal evolution. With understated design, quiet confidence, and deliberate philosophy, Voice_Of Defiance stands for those who defy the odds, choose their own path, wear their hearts on their sleeve, and live with purpose.
The debut collection ‘Future Classics’ sets the tone: timeless silhouettes named after iconic tracks, designed to transcend trends and grow with the wearer. Each piece, from the High Time Bomber to the Rapture Zip-Up Shirt Jacket and the Paradise Resort Shirt, embodies meticulous detail and enduring style. The designs, like the Roll Out Reversible Jacket with a back panel that takes over 6 hours to embroider, feel iconic from the moment they are worn.
Voice_Of Defiance is being championed by a variety of mavericks who span the worlds of music, sport and acting. These are people whose lives are defined by defying the odds: a core value that they share with the brand.
Take drum ‘n’ bass icons Sigma, for example. Their rise is the very definition of the Voice_Of Defiance philosophy. As they explain, “Starting out as DJs in a niche scene and taking it to the biggest festival stages, platinum records, and global tours—none of that was meant to happen. Drum and bass wasn’t supposed to break into the mainstream the way it did, and certainly not on the scale we managed. Every milestone we’ve hit is another example of proving people wrong.”

The brand’s tagline “Never conform. Always evolve.” is a mantra that has also guided the UK garage pioneer Zed Bias. He recalls, “I grew up in the ‘80s and ‘90s when things were tough and career options were few for the likes of me, from a council estate and no real interest in academia or working on a building site. My interest in making music began when I started to feel like expressing my discontent. I was on the dole, disenfranchised and needed something to happen. In 1994, in my bedroom, on an A4 piece of paper, I wrote a list of possible jobs I could go for that didn’t have a ‘boss’. Music producer was at the top of the list. From that day, I never asked permission, I just made it happen.”
Manchester indie band Pastel share the same can-do attitude. They have grinded on the underground gig scene and risen to achieve triumphant moments such as opening for Liam Gallagher at Knebworth and seeing their debut hit album #2 on the Official Independent Album Chart. For vocalist Jack Yates, it’s about “Proving people wrong – that’s what gets me out of bed in the morning!”

The brand’s spirit is also about having the bravery to accept that some things are out of our control, and to start again from scratch. James Haskell was a rugby legend for both England and Wasps, and always will be. But in sport, time waits for no man. He could live on his past, or build a brighter new future – which he has achieved in  myriad ways, from an MMA career to becoming an in-demand DJ and producer and selling out countless spoken word stage shows.
“The hardest choice I’ve had to make was retiring. I was a rugby player. That’s how I saw myself. That’s how other people saw me. I had to put my hand up and say, I can’t do this anymore. All of those things I’ve done since are an act of defiance against what people told me I can do: people should only be able to do one thing, and I’ve been able to do it across multiple platforms.”

Actor Thomas Turgoose is the embodiment of defying the odds. He was a complete unknown with no experience in acting when he was cast in Shane Meadows’ classic ‘This Is England’ – but he seized the moment and turned that unlikely opportunity into a long-term career. “I was a working class kid from Grimsby who was constantly told that I would never do anything. And even when I was cast in ‘This Is England’ when I was 13, I remember teachers at school even saying to me, ‘Make the most of it, mate, because it’s not going to, you won’t have a career out of it.’ And here I am twenty years later with a pretty steady career, and it’s only getting better and better.”
And these aren’t Voice_Of Defiance’s only mavericks. Every one is either a master in their field or a major next wave talent: Tom Oxley, Lock-InThe Crooks, Good Health Good Wealth, Eddie Craig, John GilliesRolla, Tom DavisThird PartyJumping Jack Frost, Jack JonesDJ S.K.TDanny TPG and Jonny Owen.
Voice_Of Defiance was set up to provide something for those who defy the odds, are proud to be individual and always strive to be and do better. Terence Duckworth and Oliver Watson of Vault Brand Management founded Voice_Of Defiance after decades in the fashion business. They specialise in amplifying the profile of premium designer brands such as Moose Knuckles and Sandbanks, selling their collections into the UK’s biggest and most culturally relevant stores, and dressing big talents. But now it is time to do it for themselves and put all of their love, passion and experience in the game into something new: a brand for the people, a new voice. Voice_Of Defiance.
