Indie/rock band Lovejoy today release their long-awaited debut album, One Simple Trick. It spans 11 tracks including the most recent single, Common Touch, plus the previously released Pay & Display and With Rob As My Witness, which have racked up almost 5 million streams combined, on Spotify alone. All 3 music videos for these songs take the viewer through the journey of a man trapped in his own mind, but in reverse.
The album kicks into gear and pulls you in with the rather apt opening track, Baptism. “It’s an introduction,” says frontman, guitarist and lyricist Will Gold. “It’s the idea of: welcome to your new life. Welcome to this new world. We live in tragically interesting times, and it does feel like the whole world is being baptised into something that I don’t think a lot of people can recognise.”
The video for Baptism also arrives today, and sees Will transform into a cliché American ‘televangelist’. The visuals see Will using his power to sell so-called miracles, and concludes in his eventual demise. Watch here.
The band have also commented on the album, “One Simple Trick took four years of overthinking, we are excited to underthink it from now on. It’s an album of reduction and processed meat. About the loss of the tangible and the grasping of a new modern meaning.”
Lovejoy recently headlined a sold out Islington Academy 2. The band announced this one-off, intimate show to their biggest fans on Reddit just weeks ahead of the show. It was the first opportunity for Lovejoy’s most dedicated fanbase to see them perform a mix of both unheard, and classic tracks.
Showing no signs of slowing down, Lovejoy will be crossing the pond for their US & Canada headline tour soon. They will kick things off in Boston on 18th October, and make their way around 26 other cities including Toronto, Chicago, LA and Dallas. The tour will wrap up on 26th November in New York. See all dates and details here.
These dates see the four-piece return to the US for their first headline tour since their debut North America headline tour in 2023, which sold 25k tickets in just two minutes! Just the year before featured Lovejoy’s first ever live shows as a band in both the UK and US, which all sold out in seconds.
2023 saw the band release their EP, Wake Up & It’s Over, which entered the Official UK Album Chart at number 5. This followed EP, Pebble Brain which was released in 2021 and landed at number 12 on the Official UK Album Chart, based on streaming alone. This is no mean feat for an independent band so early in their infancy. That same year Lovejoy released their debut EP, Are You Alright?, which has amassed 500 million streams on Spotify alone.
Forming in 2021 during lockdown, Lovejoy have risen through the ranks quickly solidifying them as indie darlings, and gathering a rabid fanbase. They have cut their teeth on the live scene, selling out shows around the world, and playing festivals such as Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds and Isle Of Wight to name a few.
