ON HYPNOTIC NEW SINGLE “CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE”
NASHVILLE-BORN SINGER/SONGWRITER/PRODUCER ANNOUNCES
NEW EP A CRATER WIDE DUE OUT 10/10
Today marks the premiere of “Center Of The Universe” — the sublime new single from indie-folk singer/songwriter/producer Hunter Metts. Also today, the Nashville-based artist announces the upcoming release of his new EP A Crater Wide, due out October 10 via Position Music/Interscope Records. Listen to “Center Of The Universe” HERE and watch the visualizer HERE. A Crater Wide EP is available for pre-order/pre-save now HERE.
Along with “Center Of The Universe,” A Crater Wide features Metts’ breakout single “Weathervane” — a 2024 release that landed on nearly every viral chart across the globe, amassing over 47.3 million streams to date. Co-produced by Metts and Andrew Berlin (a producer/engineer/multi-instrumentalist whose credits include Gregory Alan Isakov), the seven-song project encompasses a rootsy yet lavishly detailed sound that feels beautifully out of step with the noise and rush of the modern world.
One of the most achingly romantic moments on A Crater Wide, “Center Of The Universe” offers a shining example of the EP’s enchanted sonic atmosphere and soul-stirring storytelling.
“‘Center Of The Universe’ is a metaphor for what love can feel like,” says Metts. “I got married last August and it’s changed my perspective on a lot. She’s been there for me in ways I’ve never experienced. This song is about the most important person in my life.”
Anchored in his hushed vocals and graceful acoustic guitar work, “Center Of The Universe” opens with a quiet grandeur as Metts expresses his steadfast infatuation. With its lovely tapestry of sonic elements (soulful viola, wistful pedal steel, gently rumbling drums), the slow-building but hypnotic track delivers a full-hearted declaration at the chorus (“They say love can move a mountain/I think ours can move two or three”). Equal parts intimate and expansive, “Center Of The Universe” ultimately brings about the very same sense of wonder that inspired its creation.
Recorded at the legendary Blasting Room in Fort Collins, Colorado, A Crater Wide also includes Metts’ previously released singles “Abilene” (a heartrending ballad inspired by the small Texas city where his grandfather was adopted) and “Blue Ridge Run” (a deeply felt love letter to the Appalachian landscape).
“A Crater Wide came together as a set of songs about my life in the last year and the way certain moments stick with us,” says Metts. “I mixed inspiration from my life and from nature, things that feel meaningful and stories that were real. They’re honest songs that I tried to keep as down to earth as possible. Hopefully they feel like something familiar and something anyone can come back to.”
A mesmerizing live performer who recently toured North America as support for multi-platinum singer/songwriter James Bay, Metts will launch his debut U.S. headline tour and take the stage at iconic venues like New York City’s Mercury Lounge. Beginning on October 28 in Minneapolis, the 10-date a crater wide tour will continue through November 11 in Portland, ME, with stops in major cities like Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. Born into a musical family, Metts began playing instruments at a young age and soon discovered a deep passion for avant-folk artists like Bon Iver and Fleet Foxes. With his main inspirations also including the atmospheric Americana of Gregory Alan Isakov, he spent several years in the workforce as a coder but soon felt called to fully devote himself to music. After delivering his debut single “The River” in 2021, Metts quit his day job to pursue music full-time in 2023. Before achieving breakout success with “Weathervane,” he released his debut EP Monochrome: a six-song project exploring the many forms and dimensions of love.
