After a busy couple of weeks, it was time for my last gig of the month, as metalcore titans, I Prevail brought their incredibly postponed show to the home of metal, alongside Pop-Punkers Trash Boat and Metalcore 6-piece Blind Channel. After a quick queue (we were in before doors which is always nice!) I headed to the pit and the first act of the night took to the stage not long after.
Blind Channel hit the stage with an impressive amount of energy and stage presence, especially for the opening act of the night. Great stage presence and great musicianship created an incredibly tight performance that the crowd enjoyed. While I wasn’t a fan of every track, the band managed to keep my attention for the full time they were on stage almost entirely thanks to just how damn fun they were to watch. It’s always hard to be as energetic as possible on stage while keeping the performance tight and somehow Blind Channel managed to do it. If you’re into Metalcore, there’s a good chance you’ll like Blind Channel, and if you see them playing near you, I recommend seeing them if you can.

After the changeover, the next band of the night hit the stage. Trash Boat is a band I loved a few years ago but never got the chance to see live and I’m glad to have that change finally. While the setlist was made up almost completely of their new album which I really wasn’t a fan of, watching the tracks performed live was a different experience and managed to give me a much better level of appreciation for the album. From a guest vocal performance from Eric Vanlerberghe of I Prevail to the energy of the crowd (including a fight breaking out that very quickly got squashed by security) there really wasn’t anything I could complain about with the performance. The highlight for me was the band calling out the horrific merch cuts venues across the country take from bands, whilst in a venue that took a 25% cut on merch sales before saying to people to head to another venue up the road to buy merch cheaper after the night had ended. A great tight set from a band I can’t wait to see again.

After the final changeover of the night, I Prevail took to the stage with an onslaught of cheers erupting from the crowd. What really caught me off guard was the energy and tightness of the performance that showed just how the band managed to get as massive as they have. From the opening moments, the frontmen Eric Vanlerberghe and Brian Burkheiser didn’t stop moving and fully got me absorbed in the set. Mixing this with the insanely tight musicianship and performances from Gabe Helguera (drums), Dylan Bowman (guitar) and Steve Menoian (guitar) created a powerhouse of a performance that I can’t see many bands being able to replicate. With the crowd going ravenous with pits and crowd surfers not stopping other than in between songs, the band fed off the crowd’s energy and I cannot praise the performance enough.
With the gig over, it was impressive just how tight of a show it was, with all the bands involved giving it their absolute all. I highly recommend everyone check out all three of these acts as soon as possible, you won’t be disappointed.
