New York based hyperpunk favorites poptropicaslutz! have released their new single, “something about the sky,” a vital track driven by energetic drums and punchy guitar. “The song came to me one night when we were driving and an insane storm came out of nowhere,” recalls member Christian Cicillia. “I thought it was trippy how when we’d drive under a bridge, there would be a fleeting moment of peace, and complete silence while we were shielded from the rain.” This juxtaposition is certainly present within the track as it gently builds to the first verse, subsequently peppered with explosive moments of raw expression.

Referential yet inventive, the duo employs their characteristically earnest lyrical style as they counterbalance anguished affection and confession with a sense of self-awareness. Seamless transitions between Cicillia and bandmate Nick Crawford elevate the track, perfectly accentuating their penchant for meshing danceability with affliction for an addictive sound that suits an impressive range of moods. What results is a fresh, upbeat take on lovesickness that blends pop-punk influences while refusing to rely on nostalgia or pastiche.
