Today, California punk band Human Issue release the raw, vulnerable single “Clocks Bow. Trees Frown.” Swaying from the fast, hardcore punk of previous singles, the band deliver emotionally gripping spoken word placed over a steady rhythm that grows with intensity. The track stems from Human Issue’s upcoming album In Flesh out June 5th through Smartpunk Records. Stream “Clocks Bow. Trees Frown.” HERE and watch a visualizer for the song HERE.

Opening up on the single, vocalist Hunter Martinez shares:

“This is about being vulnerable – being honest with myself and speaking loud about my anger, my fears, my insecurities, my feelings. Owning them and wearing these feelings on as a sense of pride instead of shame. Being happy with who I am today. Feeling OK in my own skin now as a grown adult.

I spent a lot of time in my youth not feeling good in my own skin. The title of the song is a reference to a bad mushroom trip I had when I was 19. The clocks in my house were bending, bowing and looked as if they were falling off the wall. When I went outside, trees were frowning at me. It all felt dark.”

Human Issue just announced they’ll be joining The Bouncing SoulsThe Suicide Machines and Strike Anywhere on tour in September, as well as perform at this year’s The Fest in Gainesville, FL. Before then, the band will join Leftover Crack and Spaceman Bob on a West Coast tour starting May 7th and an east coast headline run starting June 18th, leading into Camp Punksylvania Festival on June 21st. You can find all the band’s upcoming tour dates below.

Fast, direct, and stripped of excess, In Flesh pairs short-burst songwriting with sharp, poetic lyrics and a strict “get in, get out” approach. Most songs land under two minutes, packing hardcore aggression, flashes of melody, harsh riffs, and relentless drums into a tight nine-track, fifteen-minute release. In Flesh was produced by vocalist Hunter Martinez, Bryan Lothian (of A Global Threat) and Alex Jacobelli (Negative Blast), who also engineered and mixed, with mastering by Nick Townsend at Townsend Mastering.

In Flesh is available for preorder now through Smartpunk Records.

Human Issue is Hunter Martinez – Vocals, Matthew Watkins – Vocals, Sam Mankinen – Drums, Ryan Marino – Bass, Dylan Moore – Guitar, and Emmett O’Reilly – Guitar.
