Hot Milk // Mouth Culture // The Spring Hot Milk UK Tour // Corporation // Sheffield
Is there a better time for gigs; when the sun is shining but there’s a nice breeze so you don’t get heat stroke? I hope we’re all prepared for the sweaty mosh pits to make their return this year, as we head into one of Sheffield’s most iconic venues to see the Mancunian powerhouses, Hot Milk.
Mouth Culture is no stranger to this city. The band played at Church Temple of Fun (run by Oli Sykes) and supporting While She Sleeps on their Christmas show back in 2023. The band have a strong fan base within the area, and to be honest any Hot Milk fan oblivious to them will definitely be turned today. I couldn’t imagine a more fitting lineup than these two together.
Mouth Culture are an Alternative band from Leicester, England. They’ve been making a mark on the scene for quite a few years, getting traction from the numerous gigs and festival appearances they do. With all the experience they have, the band definitely knows how to put on a great show. The vocals are always hitting just right. The guitarists man their spaces with ease and the drummer gives a great show (yes, we can actually see the drummer!).
About halfway through the set, the vocalist went shirtless. With the amount of moving the vocalist does, he probably covers his 10k steps during the 30 minutes set. It’d be great to see the guitarists move around a bit more, just so not all the energy was dependent on the vocals, but- it works. The band has got a great stage presence about them already, that suits the alternative punk vibe they have. The vocalist demands your attention, no matter which end of the stage he is.

Hot Milk hail from Manchester, the vocal duo gaining a lot of attention for their emo inspired tracks that sit just right with the alternative crowd, no matter if they were part of the emo crowd back in the day, or just experiencing it for the first time now. The band have had a whirlwind past couple of years as they toured stadiums and venues with bands like Foo Fighters, You Me At Six and Palaye Royale. Then they had amazing slots on festivals like 2000 trees and Sad Summer.
Hot Milk have announced their sophomore album, Corporation P.O.P, is set for release on 27th June 2025. The band have been doing a tour of the UK, debuting some new live songs in anticipation. One of the debut album songs, “Breathing Underwater”, definitely went down with a bang with the audience. Both vocals running around the stage and just getting that energy UP.
The vocal duo has such a way of igniting the stage. Hearing the crowd shouting back the lyrics seems to only further light the passion behind the 4-piece. Han and Jim, the vocal duo, have always been known as having high energy (especially the former) and that’s only further highlighted by having the full band on stage.
I have to speak about the vocals specifically don’t I? The soft and harsh vocals just strike that sweet spot. The pair have matched their pitches and styles perfectly, creating a perfect synergy. The only thing that can further their stage at this point is having more lighting design. The band already have their swag and technicality down, let’s get them to a point where they don’t have to rely on in-house strobe. Imagine a full-on lighting setup. Screens. LED panels. Something just to add to their flare.
Hot Milk is such a treat to watch live. Mouth Culture too. A line up showing the best of British alternative/emo and all the genre blends between. Both bands will have a busy summer ahead, new music and festival appearances. With the new album in June, I imagine Hot Milk will embark on another tour, this time bigger. So, if you missed them this time, you might have a shot later in the year. Do not miss the next generation of artists, there’s something special about ’em.

Manchester, UK – HOT MILK continue their Corporation P.O.P era with new single Swallow This which takes swipe at the so-called leaders of the world, who seem hell-bent on callously cavaliering us headfirst into collapse.
Talking further on the single, lead singer Han Mee expands “We live in a post-truth era, we are confused, we are lost, and we are untrusting. We must follow our gut to what is moral, right and kind. Swallow This is a protest song against the hypodermic needle of control media. They anger and press upon pressure points to gain control. As we have always said, QUESTION EVERYTHING. It is healthy and it is right in this world that has evolved too fast for our primate brains to keep up. We must prioritise the wellness and safety of our fellow man, no matter their race, creed, religion, gender or sexuality. We are human beings, do not let something as common as money and power replace what truly matters. Community, joy, laughter, spirit. I will stand on that picket line first if it comes to it, for now, this is all we got. Enjoy, f ‘em.”

HOT MILK’s sophomore album, Corporation P.O.P. is an extravagant, uncompromising assessment of the perilous world around us, examined through a sharp British lens that is both witty and universal.
Having studied a politics degree, Han Mee has used that with Corporation P.O.P. – where Hot Milk unleash the pent-up anger experienced en masse around the globe. “I’ve always felt like a bit of a white knight – it’s my duty to save the world somehow,” says Han. “I feel very, very impacted by the world’s issues, consistently. I wanted to be an MEP [Member of European Parliament], that was my dream.”
Despite its global outlook, Corporation P.O.P. is an album that takes root in Manchester and Salford, exemplified by the band’s decision to shoot all of their videos in their hometown. “Newt Gingrich, who was a US politician, once said ‘All politics is local’,” says Han. “I’m trying to look local and be involved locally so I can affect my world. This is how I survive, because the world can feel overwhelming.”
“Manchester is the best f’in city in the world,” she continues, getting somewhat emotional, having recently u-turned from a permanent move to LA when Manchester came calling back to her. “We started this band in Manchester, it’s intrinsic to me and who I am. It has to bleed into the art we create, because it helped me create it.”
Produced by the band’s own Jim Shaw, with Zach Jones and KJ Strock, you can sense Hot Milk’s killer instinct throughout the record, a result of the intensive writing process and recorded as live album, it offers the band at their heaviest with their raw, unapologetic lyrics which brim with unfiltered emotion.
Snapshotting the gloom of the present and unloading very real fears for the future, the sentiment behind ‘Corporation P.O.P.’ might feel locked inside a time capsule. But fast forward two decades, and time will surely prove why this record carries the hallmarks of something timeless.
Hot Milk have also announced a series of dates across the UK and US this Spring and Summer.
