“a raw examination of identity, self-worth and love.” – Rolling Stone UK

“Armed with a big pedalboard and a bottomless well of emotion, London shoegaze newcomer Hongza writes a swirling soundtrack to coming of age.” – Drowned In Sound

British-Asian, emo-shoegaze artist Hongza has reimagined one of his most dreamy tracks ‘She Changes The Weather’. Listen to the Alternative Version now. The track features on a newly expanded Deluxe Edition of Hongza’s acclaimed ‘Coming Of Age’ EP, which is set for release next week 29th July via Killabop. Pre-save now.

“‘She Changes The Weather’ is a coming-of-age love story wrapped in dreamy, atmospheric guitars,” says Hongza. “Sweeping soundscapes evoke the rush of young love and the freedom of escaping into the world with someone who changes everything.” Drawing from his own life, Hongza reflects on finding a love that became a catalyst for healing, helping him overcome the inner battles that once defined him.

There’s also a music video to accompany this positively dream-o new version, which follows on from a narrative laid out in the music video for ‘Lovesick (Alternative)’. Hongza says of the clip(s): “The music video for She Changes The Weather (Alternative) is the part 2 of my ode to Wong Kar Wai. Lovesick (Alternative) was part one, where you see me driving endlessly to reach my end destination. This is Part 2, where I finally reach my fiancée and we live our coming of age love story. Shot in Alexandra Place, a place that holds significant value to us and the start of our relationship.”

‘Coming Of Age (Deluxe)’ adds another string to Hongza’s bow (or maybe make that his guitar) too: “I threw myself into the deep end to produce and mix these songs myself,” he says. “I’d never done that before and have learnt so much about production along the way. Massive shoutout to my producer Larry Hibbitt and my guitarist George Curnick for guidance on all of this! I’ve now started feeling confident enough to start producing for other bands, so watch this space.”

The original ‘Coming Of Age’ tracks were produced by longtime collaborator Larry Hibbitt (Nothing But Thieves, Boston Manor, Dinosaur Pile-Up).

To celebrate the release of ‘Coming Of Age (Deluxe)’ Hongza will be playing a very special show at The Cinema At Selfridges on the day of its release. The guestlist is now full but you can apply to be a back-up by following these steps.
