Following the successful release of previous single, Alone, HIMALAYAS are back with brand new music. Doing what they do best, Out Of The Dark And Into The Light opens with an anthemic riff, and frontman Joe Williams’ compelling vocals. Sure to go down a storm live, the new single arrives alongside the lyric video which can be seen here.
Joe explains, “Out Of The Dark And Into The Light is a song about hoping for something better, as well as hoping to be better. It was written at home during the tail end of a lockdown, and snowballed once we got back into a practice room.”
The quartet are heading out on their UK headline tour next week. The dates kick off at the Garage Attic Bar in Glasgow on Wednesday 28th and the band will make their way around various cities including Newcastle, Leeds and Brighton, O2 Islington Academy 2 in London, and then will go out with a bang and play a very special show in their hometown of Cardiff, at the iconic Buffalo bar on 8thOctober. Having once seen legendary artists such as Adele, Stormzy and James Blake perform there, Buffalo closed back in 2019 but reopened earlier this week and HIMALAYAS were personally invited to headline the reopening! Tickets are on sale here. The band will also be performing at Neighbourhood Festival, Manchester on 1st October. They will join the likes of Everything Everything, Sundara Karma, Alfie Templeman and more. Tickets are available to buy here.
July saw HIMALAYAS release their burgeoning single, Alone, which was produced by their longtime collaborator Steffan Pringle and mixed by GRAMMY Award winning producer, Dave Sardy (Royal Blood, Josh Homme, Rage Against The Machine). The song arrived alongside the official music video, directed by Joel Barney (Royal Blood, Alfie Templeman, Gang Of Youths). The moody visuals see HIMALAYAS performing in front of a series of flashing lights, and a translucent screen showing several people fervently moving behind it. Watch here. Alone has received solid support on the radio, where it has racked up several plays on Daniel P Carter’s Radio 1 Rock Show, and on Spotify where it is currently included in playlists such as Alternative Noise (48k likes) and Shockwave (4.7k likes).
Sharing a mutual love of Queens Of The Stone Age, Muse and Iggy Pop in their teenage years, Joe and guitarist Mike Griffiths started playing covers in their local pubs. Later joined by drummer James Goulbourn in 2015, they were completed by Louis Heaps on bass. HIMALAYAS started making their own unique blend of raucous fast-paced rock’n’roll music, which soon went on to earn them an extremely solid fanbase. The four-piece have been cutting their teeth on the live circuit ever since, playing highly-regarded festivals including SXSW and Reading & Leeds Festival, supported the likes of Stereophonics and Manic Street Preachers, and have played sold out headline shows in London and Cardiff.
HIMALAYAS have also racked up over 30 million streams on their 2017 track Thank God I’m Not You, on Spotify alone, where it was also added to several editorial playlists. The single received spins from Radio 1’s from Greg James and Clara Amfo, where it was also Track Of The Week, plus plays from Steve Lamacq on Radio 6.
2020 came and put HIMALAYAS’ incredible trajectory to an abrupt stop, but Joe, Mike, Louis and James are now ready and raring to pick back up where they left off. This year will see the rock outfit continue to release new music, and head out on the road again.
