The high-energy Irish guitar quintet, Gurriers, today release “one of the most exciting debuts of the year so far” (Dork), Come and See, via No Filter. The band has also shared a visualiser for the album’s title track, “Come and See”.

As the end of the first quarter of the 21st century inches ever closer, our planet precariously teeters from one crisis to the next. Rather than passively sit back and watch, Gurriers are launching a searing counterattack on the malaise of the modern age with an album of raucous reflection. Come and See is a truly thrilling collection of razor-sharp progressive punk songs full of furious sucker punches. The album explores many themes – the end of the world, the disenfranchised youth of Dublin, emigrant friends, the rise of the far right, desensitisation to violence, a pope struggling with belief and love.

The album follows a series of releases this year including the cataclysmic, tongue-in-cheek anthem mourning the rise of the far right, “Approachable”, which was also endorsed by The Needle Drop; the distorted post-punk love song “Top Of The Bill”, plus the intensely heavy, psych-punk groove of “Des Goblin”, all three of which were playlisted on BBC Radio 6 Music, and more recently the balls-out noise-rock of “No More Photos”, the viscerally ferocious “Close Call”, along with earlier releases from the album such as “Nausea” and “Sign Of The Times”.

Hailing from various parts of Ireland, Gurriers (whose name is taken from an antiquated and somewhat charming Irish term for lout, ruffian, or street urchin), formed in January 2020, initially comprising Dan Hoff on lead vocals, Ben O’Neill on guitar and backing vocals, Mark MacCormack on guitar, Pierce Callaghan on drums and Emmet White on bass, who has since amicably left the band and been replaced by Charlie McCarthy.

Come and See is no ordinary debut, but an exhilarating statement of intent by five people fed up with tiptoeing politely around the chaos. Come and see for yourself.

Listen to “Come and See” here and watch the visualiser below.
